Default 1948 Dry Lakes Footage.

Last week I got a surprise parcel in the mail, Curt Giovanine had sent me a Cd with video. I played it and was totally blown away with the content. Curt had sat down with his dad Bob, sister, and brother-in-law in '96 with video camera recording an old 8mm home movie of the '25 roadster in '48. Curt said I could post this, so enjoy.
Cheers
Jimmy

Jimmy, that's just an unbelievable piece of history. It leads me to think that there must be more film than those few seconds.

Mark, ever since I first saw the roadster I've imagined how it looked like in colour and moving across the dry lakes. Getting that footage off Curt and watching it over & over and over is better than I ever could of imagined. Even though Bob, Chuck, Rufi & Duke are all passed now this is the closes thing to meeting them. I'm planning a trip to the US next year so I will hopefully meet Curt and thank him for sharing his dads photos, footage and info, as it has been invaluable in my build up.
Cheers

Thanx 4 taking me back to what that time was like. That was very cool! My dad was 18 then, wish I could've been hanging with him and his buds going to the lakes.

That's Awesome!!! Pictures of that car are cool, But a color movie with narration by Bob himself is off the chart! Also, I didnt expect Bob Rufi's name to be pronounced like that.

Thanks Todd, this car has really had me smitten ever since I first laid eyes on it. I'm so stoked to see it being restored and also to see footage of it and the guys in action back in the day.

Here is another post with more vintage pics

No, my roadster is heavily influenced by the original. Visually they are very close but I've used parts that I had. There was no need to clone it as the original is being restored.

It's incredible to see footage like this. Just another small peak into that era. Just perfect with the voice over too. Great way to capture the history of a silent movie.

Thanks for thinking of us Jimmy!!

We are very lucky Curt & his sister Teri sat down with their dad to film this.

You should do the same with your dad with any photos & get any stories from the lakes, that would make for great viewing too!

Great footage Jimmy, I see why your post made the "big time" as a featured thread on TJJ!
I only just got to watch it as Youtube is blocked at work and even 41 seconds of footage takes forever to buffer on my "period correct" PC.

Hey Nic, yeah it's pretty cool! The footage is very deserving!

That sucks that work blocks youtube but at least you got to see it on a Ol' Skool™ PC
