Junkyard in Belgium!! I read a lot off posts about junkyards here, this one i want to share!! Here are some pics of a junkyard in Belgium, close to the france border. There are more than 300 cars, mostly u.s. All are to far gone to restore (you can see on the pics) The place is seporate in three area's. The owner past away two years ago, and his son (who is a vetranary dr.) owns the place now. When i asked him how all those oldies came there he said that his father had a second hand car shop and he bought all those cars from WWII veterans that stayed after the war in military bases around the village. I did know about this story for years but always tought that it was a ferrytale...now i know better!! I hope that you like it
What does Defense de Cracher mean? Shoot on sight? Thanks for sharing the photos. Too bad that old Nash coupe is so far gone, would make a great tail dragger-style custom, has built-in fender skirts!
For as far as i know, this means "forbidden to spit on the floor" You can imagine how old this place is! (But i don't speak french very well, i come from the dutch speaking region of Belgium!) I think "shoot on sight" sounds a lot cooler!! hahaha cheers
There must of been alot of american cars running around over there since they look to be very well picked over.

One of the coolest things about the military then was all the cars. So many moved to one base and never left. A guy would rotate out sell for what he paid, I bet some cars lived 30 years on bases around the world.

I hear ya, Big Pete Served at Roosevelt Roads NAS in Puerto Rico '67-'68. Surveyed the available "base car" fleet. Couldn't afford the "big" Volkswagen Beetle at $300, had to settle for a $200 Fiat 600. Since I go about 6'5", it was pretty comical! That little puppy took the wife and I up the mountain to the El Yunque rain forest. A year later we tried it again before we left PR, but the power (sic) had deteriorated to the point I couldn't make the top. Pretty good times .... young and stupid. (As opposed to now ... old and still stupid!)
hey ventilo i live 5 minutes over the border by Venlo so not so far away from you. sounds like a killer ride you have... right now i drive a , besides a minivan for my three kids, a '65 ford f100 bagged on all fours and needs a little tlc... wished i had a coupe or a model a... for sure booting a flathead... well all dreams. maybe we can hook up at a meet or something like that. see ya
Hi there in Holland, thanks for the post!! I live between Antwerp and Ghent a small village named "Hamme" I drive a poncho catalina '66 in original condition. I also own a '53 Hudson hornet hollywood 2door hardtop that is in the rebuilding proces.(pics are on the HAMB) I alos own a HD sportster ironhead in original condition but i almost have all the parts to rebuild it in boardtrack style!! (i hope it's gonna be a long and dark winter to finish al my projects haha) greetz from Belgium to all hambers anyway!!

Been there, everything is so far gone, believe me. If you grab it almost turns to dust. The climate in Belgium made his toll.
this site has been 'cleaned' by the owner... Belgian state caught up with the rumour, and they put up a fine pro car (its against the law here to dump a car in the green) the owner cleared the site.. Originally these cars were heading towards the port of antwerp to ship americans home after the war. They got stuck in the snow and were evacuated. The community led a new road around the street with the cars, and thus remained unused. The trees grew, and led to this unique site... wich now is gone
The stuff in the old shed was still there last time I was over there in August 2010. Several V8-60 flatheads blocks and parts were still lying around - ready for pick-up. So when I read it correctly the cars in the woods have been scrapped as well? I just wonder how they managed to get them out without cutting all the trees. This must habe been one of the most impressive junkyards in Europe, like Messerli in Switzerland and Teruel in Spain. So now only Tockförs on the Swedish/Norwegian border remains?
Been there about 15 times from 1992 to 2007 and the now deceased owner was a very friendly man who spoke English (not very common in this French spoken part of Europe). Every time i drove back home with a car full of parts for little money and i have some 200 to 250 pics mostly taken in 1992/1993 and cars were already fallen into pieces back then. There were/are some very nice cars like a 57 Chevy 2dr HT, a 53 Buick Super Convertible, several Ford shoeboxes etc. It's a shame if this place is cleared but with the European laws i'm surprised it didn't happen before.
