With the H.A.M.B. Drags coming this weekend, I figured it was appropriate to feature a vintage drag car of some kind. I dug through my vintage archives looking for something unique to rap about and came across the above '32 roadster. I have no idea w...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
That roadster ought to be fast. I wonder what the power to weight ratio was? Running recaps sounds a little scary though at that speed.
Can I just say I'm a fan of crazy roll bars?? From the east coast styled square ones to the unfunctional type made from Conduit . Chrome them, paint em white, whatever I just like cars with them. This car has all the right elements for my kind of Drag car. Tons of Set back on the engine. Tall Roll Bar Small Window Kidney bean Halibrand Mags out back and Spindle mounts up front Double Rocker Chrysler Engine Channeled Exhausts that exit through cowl Cool.
I was looking through some old Hot Rod mags from '60 and '63 last night. I'll try to bring them to work tomorrow and scan some images for the thread. Cool roadster!
I just can't imagine the old hemi turning that many R. Evil, wicked and totally out of control. Just the way we like 'em.
Those trumpet exhaust tips look an awful lot like the ones from the Ramchargers' High and Mighty. Seeing as they were setting records in '59 and '60, I would assume this car was racing at close to that time period. Very cool car. I've never seen a Hemi powered Deuce roadster that wasn't...
Yeah...holy HELL! What were they thinking? 8,500 RPM?!?! For how long, one pass? Jeez...Better have a pile O'them... Oh...yeah...I guess they kinda did, back then... COOL/INSANE car... How'd ya' like to have your asbesto's boots on top of that Cad trans. when side-stepping the clutch on that thing at, oh, I don't know...lets say a reasonable 7 Grand!
... a perfect example of simplicity - big motor, little everything else. Haul ass with purpose. Oversized motor? Check! Undersized rollbar? Check! Huge balls? Double Check! Another one that fits the criteria!
Did this thing perhaps have a tilt-up body? Would make sense to service the engine and trans. Hard to tell in these photos but it looks nicely detailed, kind of showy. Maybe the firewall and floor pieces are removable.
i can see 8500 rpms without blowing up. donovan gurdle forged crank maybe destroked alum. rods nitro its do-able, gean adams ran a jr fuel dragster that was as far as i can figure a destroked 330 desoto with 341 heads cut down chrysler hilborn injection at 98% went to 9 grand all day and get 7.14 in the quarter with a 2 speed glide behind it. im going to build a destroked 354 one day hoping for 10 grand from it, or a destroked 259 plymouth poly block with hemi heads. either way should be a killer ride.
I love the attention to detail early 60's erra. tidy builds with 20 coats of laquer. Most of the competition cars from that erra could double as show cars . My favorite time in history this hobby.
You could have stopped at '32 roadster................that's all that's needed . Seriously, it looks like a killer ride and something I would like to own. You know....... for sunday afternoon.......... in a straight line.........to take up the time between driving the '32 sedan............... and the '32 coupe..............and the '32 pickup. Frank
