Early record:

63.15 km / h
The first registration of an official record speed in a car was registered in France, on 18 December 1898.
Gaston de Chasseloup-Laub, in a car with an electric motor Jeantaud Duc, managed a top speed of 63.15 km / h.

Camile Jenatzy's first:

105,88 km/h
Pragul de 100 km/h a fost depasit in acelasi an, pe 29 aprilie, tot in Franta, tot de catre belgianul Camille Jenatzy, in masina sa electrica, CITA No 25, La Jamais Contente. Acesta a atins viteza de 105,88 km/h.

April, 1902 - William K Vanderbilt drove a Mors Z. Aceasta to 124.14KPH:

I don't think there are, or I can't find, any B&W photos of a Mors Z.

Anyone can go fishing and catch a fish. Catching the specific fish you wanted requires a fisherman. Thanks for taking the bait, Donnie.

Nice collection of photographs T-H. Wish they were mine.

The wheels on Art Klien's Frontenac look very familiar. Are they the same brand that were run at Indy on the Miller's of Ira Vail and Leach? I think they were called Disteel.

T-Head grabbed them off ebay. If you can convince seller to ship to Australia, they can be yours.

Yes, Milton, but not the first race at Beverly, it's actually the last: February 24, 1924. The following day, razing of the track already began. #33 is Milton's second car, for motorcycle star Ralph Hepburn.

Januray 26, 1919, "old" Ascot Speedway: Steve Elmore crashed the "Gordon Special" (Huntley Gordon's Mercer/Wisconsin) during qualifying, riding mechanic Jack Shafer broke his shoulder according to reports. Apparently, the car somersaulted forward and landed upside down, then rolling over. "Elmore only got his face dirty"!
