So my friend brings her comet to my house to lower the back of it. It had the awesome stinkbug stance and she just wanted to level it out so that it would look more normal. My roommate and I got the back down to a normal level and just looked it over and when we got to the front and saw the springs, or what was left of them, we got a little scared. I dont know what part about this is my favorite. Ill let the pictures do the talking.
If you by chance know who did this, please take their tools away.

Kits like that were sold by the likes of JC Whitney and other in the 60's. For kids that didn't have a torch, it was a cheap way to lower a coil sprung front end.
I'll bet thousands were sold.

I found the same kind of thing on the front of my '63 chevy pickup. The bottom coil was broken off and the rest of the spring was sitting on top. It had the same kind of spring clamps on it.

Not even in my "sport-drinking" days would I have come up with that. Then again...what's the line about desperate times calling for desperate actions? Yikes, indeed!

I've seen worse. I have a customer who brought me his car to do some chassis work. The rear frame section was crooked and made badly enough to have to replace it from the front of the rear wheel wells all the way back but the front clip connection is made out of angle iron and pure luck. One 4" angle length on each side. He stills drives it around, against my suggestions.

I think i would be looking that ride of hers over real good , and letting her know what you found before letting it back out on the road..
not like you were looking for more work, but in the "keep it safe" type of advice. I think its time for a new set of front springs..what else is lurking?

Thats why I liked having annual basic safety inspections in Missouri, as opposed to here in Arizona where shit like that shares the road with my family.
