chopping a 47 plymouth coupe

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by los punk rods dave, May 31, 2009.

  1. started another project , doing a full kustom, bagging whole car, chopping top , shaving some trim, shaving some handles, molding in lakepipes, going to totally rework the front , frenching in canted dual headlights and removing existing grill and replacing with a 1950 buick bucktooth grill and split cadillac dagmire bumpers on either side ,rebuilding original flathead six drivetrain , flush mount skirts , and if i can find some thinking about replacing rear fenders with 1940 truck rear fenders !

Looks like you're working at a pretty good clip. How much did you take out of the roofline?

  4. ended up taking 4 inches out of front and about 6 inches out of the c pillar , i took some pictures with measurement if any one needs them still have to radius the rear of the sideglass opening and then the door top and then to the driverside

  5. windshield opening height is 11 1/2 inches

Keep the pics of the project coming. The lines look great. I'd love to see more of a side view when you get a chance.

    looks great!

  14. got rear bottom of window done tonight and drivers c pillar bent and all tacked together , found a easy way on the complex curve pieces , made a template with masking tape , tape the area you want to make out of sheet metal and pull off and then flatten out onto your metal then trace shape then cutout and bend to shape , bent over an torch bottle to get the curve , then put onto car and cut through both pieces of metal with a cutoff wheel on a grinder , line up edges of metal and worked around the sheet cutting , tacking until it was all tacked , worked out better than i thought and pretty easy , now just have to do the b pillars sat and the hard part of the chop is done , i am going to set the body back on the frame and then do the door tops just in case the body had sagged at the doors , probably do that sun . not bad for day 3

Is there any sort of website on these? I have a neighbor who wants to sell me one cheap.

  21. long weekend , got the chop done , got the 4 link in rear and couldnt resist on seeing what it will look like with the body back on , still have to patch some rotted pieces on floor and some in the rockers, wanted to do the door tops when it was back on the body , have to get some bags next week and then body will come back off for grinding and paint on the chassis . taped some paper over the rear opening in one picture to see what it will look like with skirts

Dave I must admit...When you dive into a project ummm you dive head first at rocket speed and never look back. It is always a treat to go down to our garage and see what unbelievable progress you have accomplished on any of your projects. So how long until you come out with your own T.V. Show? You are the only guy I know that could chop a car with a butter knife, melt down a ton of fishing weights as filler, and using a can of hair spray and a lighter as a torch." You do amaze me Ha ha. VLPR brother!!!
