I was trying to get around my '64 Comet the other day and wondered what it would be like to have a smaller car. I'm not exactly huge, so I can barely even push the thing by myself, that and it takes up half of my garage. It got me thinking about building something smaller. I know T's, A's, '32s, etc. all qualify, but what about something more like a Nash Metropolitan, or a Crosley, etc. I imagine someone has built some cool small stuff. Let's see some pics if you've got them.

Fiats are small. Only an 80" wheelbase. They don't take up much room and the possibilities are endless as to how you could build them.

And here's a 5/8 scale 1942 Ford from Arizona I saw at Hot August nights a few years ago - has a Toyota twin cam engine.

From "About Us"..... "The Jalopy Journal was formed just a few years later to spread the gospel of traditional Hot Rods and Kustoms to hoodlums worldwide… We wanted to be the voice of the working man, a tool in the toolbox of the guy that does it himself, and a place where citizen journalists could show the “big-time” media a thing or two. We haven’t done it all yet, but we aim to in time…" traditional, from the American Heritage Dictionary.... tra-di'-tion-al, adj, 1.the passing down of elements of a culture from generation to generation, esp orally. 2a.,a cultural custom or usage, b.,a set of such customs and usages viewed as a coherent body of precedents. 3.,Any time-honored set of practices. hot rod, hot-rod (a car modified to increase its speed and acceleration) Now, don't get all tweaked out of shape, I understand that most of this forum is shaped around pre-64 American iron, but I don't think you could say that a MGB with a small block Chevy or Ford isn't a traditional hot rod.

did somebody say Crosley?
I had an itch to build one using a '47 sedan body and a Model A chassis, but never got anywhere with it. Besides nabbing these photos from here and there. Also, a few other Crosley dragsters and oddballs I've come across: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2...sley-dragster/ http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2...ow-more-about/ http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2...-odd-crosleys/ http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2...ied-creations/ http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2...elivery-needs/ http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2...-packardbaker/ http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2...eets-cadillac/ dan

A little inspiration for you:-
Ford Anglia 100E (2 tone), Ford Model Y (green), Austin 7 (black), Hillman Husky (peach). Ok not all HAMB friendly but all good potential base material. |

I saw a cool photo of a crosley station wagon. The rear wheel stuck out past the factory fenders. I would like to put a small block in a Morris Minor pick up.

How about a Berkley, a very small British car powered by a 322 c.c. M/C engine, later to run a 700 c.c.Notice the size compared to the people standing close to it - just about even with the knees.

There is one of those Anglia 100E's at a local junk yard that just got pulled in. Anything worth saving off of it? Looks to be very complete except for the grille.
Tiny little thing, looks like a 50 Ford's fetus. |

Lowkat, you would have exactly what Mr Shelby had. The Cobra was an AC Ace with a SBF.

I could just not afford a Sport Prinz that was for sale in my neighbourhood when I was in high school!
I had all kinds of mid-engined dreams, though.

Just to set things straight, the Chinese have NOT bought Indiana. According to Governor Mitch, it's a "long term lease". After that, they have the right of first refusal on a buy option.

He got smacked into the tree on the front lawn and when he hit the dash with his knees he broke it ih half....not that bad though it was make of pressed cardboard, he didn't get hurt. |

I built up a '68 GT6 with a warmed up 289 years ago. It's now on the britishv8.org site here:
http://www.britishv8.org/Triumph/DeryleWilliams.htm Deryle has done a lot of good work to it since I owned it. I had the exhaust running straight out the back when I had it... I'm not too hot on the side pipes but it ain't my car anymore. I never took it to the quarter mile but it outran several local mid-high 12 second street cars. Pretty decent for a stock GT6 rear end on street tires I guess.

When I had it, it was a little more traditional. It had steel wheels on it, different air cleaner and no side pipes. I should've kept it and gasser-ized it with the correct engine set back and all... but I had to sell it due to money problems years ago. Now that i'm doing much better i've been thinking of doing another Triumph conversion. The GT6/Spitfire series of cars are much easier to do the Ford V8 conversions on than the TR4-TR250-TR6 cars... The reason being is there's no real inner fender wells. The hood and front fenders all come up as a factory tilt front end and those cars only run little motorcycle looking fenders on the inside to keep water off the engine. SUPER EASY to convert over. The SBF is a great fit to. I had a remote oil filter on it but aside from that I had no real issues.

had a 69 gt 6+ triumph...got it from the grandson of a guy who helped open a major triumph dealership in fla...gave it to him for 33 years with them..had dual overdrives, twin sidedraft stombergs and factory trials clock...was over 125 hp...was setup by the head triumph wrench, had alot of road racing background with the triumphs...speedo topped out at 135 mph,,,had it past 120 on I-74 out past harrision ohio one nite....kid got tired of it being a 2 seater, needed to buy something bigger for going from uc back to fla....gave $1800 for it in 1976...was cherry inside and out,...sold it 3 years later for $2500.......

I had a '58 Isetta for a while. I really enjoyed everything about it in town. But trying to accelerate out onto a highway in front of semis was a little hairy. But it is true that they will give 60 mpg at 55 mph. The upside down backward left hand 4speed shift pattern was real easy to get used to. I sold it just before the values of these things went through the roof. Ain't that the way it always works? Elvis had one too... in a movie.

The SD Auto Museum had a great show on little cars in January. This 1937 Datsun phaeton has some real hot rod potential. As does the American Bantam Pickup
