I had noticed Dean Lowe's posts for some time and quickly recognized that he was a man with considerable history. You can always tell the guys that lived during the golden era and mingled amongst the heroes by the way they converse. Dean is a passion...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Well done kid! Nice hot rod for a first effort too. Shit. Talk about having some help from the right people.
Always great to hear Dean's stories. I have never met him, but needless to say i would love to. Later, Dick
Now that was an awesome read. He needs to write a book. My God that almost sounds like a fairytale with all of those names sprinkled in there.
Thanks Dean! I had to go get my February 1962 issue of Hot Rod and reread the feature on your cover car. It has been 47 years since I put my two quarters on the counter at Squashes News Store for that issue, you impressed an 11 year old then. Thanks for "The Rest of the Story". Were is the RPU today? Bob
This just proves what I've been telling Dean since I met hm at the GNRS this year. There's a book of great stories inside that mans head. He just needs a little encouragement and a publisher.
Shit, now you've done it! This is going to go to his head and it's all we'll hear over in the OFC from now on!
Best entry of 2009!!! Truly a great story and your father sounded like one of the coolest. What a time to live.
A friend of mine in England has the car now , he's managed to get all the parts to put it together , I even found the hood side that Dean is holding on the cover of Hot Rod Magazine, it was never fitted to the car & still has the original paint on it !!! .Unfortunately he has yet to get the restoration underway despite constant nagging from us all. Dean gave me a bunch of history to give the new owner I've held it all to ransom until he finishes the car . Thanks for the piece Ryan , that's one of my all time favorite Hot Rods . Dean is such a cool geezer too.
Crazy. Yesterday I almost ttt'd Dean's earlier thread about his RPU. There are some incredible pictures of it - and a 12yr old go-karting Dean! - in the Kurtis Kraft book. I highly recommend you get this Ryan, or anyone else interested in early racing history. It was obvious that the Lowes and Kurtis' were close knit families, a lot of the images in that book were provided by Dean. Thanks for the writeup, sent chills down my spine. It is just like a hot rodder's fairly tale.
Great story, and extremely well written as well! I'm a big fan of Dean's old RPU...it just had the "look." It could back it up too, with the way it ran. Thanks Dean, for taking the time to write that stuff down for all the rest of us.
that's a cool story, it reads like the 'who's who' of hotrodding history thanks for taking the time to write it
