    Was out driving to day and stumbled across this doodlebug tractor. Being from a near alot of farming area, its really not too uncommon to find them.
    The thing that really cracked me up was the roof addition. I just had to share it with the HAMB.
    ENJOY, have a couple more if anyone is even interested.
    AND, if you have any doodlebug pics, lets see em!!

    you know, i wonder how many A trucks have been saved over the years because somebody made a doodlebug out of it, effectively leaving it high and dry away from the mud that eats most cars when they sit for so long....

    Back when I was a dumb kid I could have had two of them given to me by an old guy at church. One was a Studebaker and the other was a nice one made from a 28 or 29 A. Both had dual transmissions and truck rear ends for super low gearing. Back in the days folks could buy an old A a heck of a lot cheaper than a tractor. Companies like Sears also made kits to convert A's and T's to tractors.

    O/T? Hell no!!!

    Doodlebugs kick ass! They're the perfect blend of farm implement and hot rod. An awesome mix if there ever was one. Let's see more!

  11. When I read the title of this thread, I thought it was about DOODLE BUG
    mini-bikes of the late 40's ...

    [IMG]

    There were 40,000 Doodle Bugs manufactured from the spring of 1946 through
    the fall of 1948 by Beam Mfg. of Webster City, Iowa. They were produced in
    four runs of 10,000 each. The first production consisted of Standard Models A
    (Briggs & Stratton) and B (Clinton). Only 750 to 1,000 of the first production
    were the Model B, making it the rarest of all Doodle Bugs. All Doodle Bug motor
    scooters had kick-start engines and were painted red from the factory. The only
    accessories available were three headlight/taillight kits which consisted of:

    1) Bendix headlight generator with a Do-Ray taillight for B & S only;
    2) Do-Ray headlight and taillight with a 6-volt battery which would fit all scooters;
    3) Make-A-Lite headlight and taillight with a 6-volt battery which would fit all scooters.

    In addition, there was one Delta brake light kit that used a type D battery.

    What is that expression???? Nothing more dangerous that a farmer with a welder.

    Across the street from my dads place under a fallen down barn is a straight 8 buick powered doodle build on a shortened Studebaker 4wd drive duece and a half army chassis with dually front wheels and triple rears. It has a built in PTO driven 3 ft circular sliding table buzz saw on a platform off the back of the frame. I believe the way it was set up, the dynaflow powered the trucks tranny through a cobbed up belt drive deal. so it was an automatic dual range 4 speed. It was basically unstopable in low range second gear. it was used a log skidder, a fire wood hauler, a tractor recovery vehicle, had a huge winch that came off a wrecker and with the PTO powered all kinds of stuff on the farm through the long leather belt.

    My neighbor is building a Studebaker doodlebug with a President 8 Stude motor, and a bunch of parts from all over. When it is done, I will post pix.

    I belong to a Doodlebug club in N.Y. got to know the guys when I was building my A modified, got some parts from them and they asked me to join the club. That was probably 4 - 5 years ago I've started building one for myself 4 - 5 times now and always get side tracked and tear it apart to build something else, I'm back collecting the parts to do one this winter hopefully this time I'll get it finished. Problem is I lean a little more to the Hot Rod side and usually get about 75 % done and say damn that would be a cool hot rod. Had a very nice '32 Worthington tractor but had to sell that before I started Hot Rodding it. I still can't do the picture thing here but if anyone is interested I can send some by email.

    I learned to drive on a Doodle-Bug... a Model A with 2 transmissions back to back and a TT worm-gear drive... Ten speeds forward three in reverse... put both trannys in reverse and it would go forward... I could pull stumps out of the ground with it.
