Here is what I'm thinking for my one off custom 4 Link Design

I'm trying to do a full bolt on configuration... why you ask... I'm an engineer... when the project is done I garuntee I'm giong to need something to toy with..... and Probably this....

I think I'd rather have one bar over the axle, one below.
May have wheel hop under braking

Hey! I take that as well.... sh*t........ the truth

Naw in all honesty..... its something to do that doesnt really effect the outward appearance... but man will it be nice to have in regards to ride quality when running completely empty.... and the moment I need to haul a few pallets of shingles for a friends new roof.... simply up the air pressure and viola.... its back to its full 2-ton hauling purpose.

give some thought to your shock angle. Great build, I am subscribed!

Please stand those shock up more vertical. They will be doing nothing at the angle that you show them currently.

Why not just use the tried and true truck-arm type suspension??

Why can't i get my weld feature to work like yours. I'm using SW2009 w/ sp 1.4???

I would agree. Maybe incorporate the lower shock mount in the U bolt plate.

Damn that truck is cool

cntrl-left click all the faces you want threads on..... control-rightclick on a face..... appearance / threads / adjust angle-repeat size accordingly.

Cosmetic Thread Callouts rarely ever work or appear correctly on exterior based threads.... only holes do consistently.

EDIT: Running Solidworks Pro 2009 x64 sp. 4.00

Wait... Are you filleting the edges and then just putting the cosmetic thread on the fillet??

If you run the 4-link I think the end on the axle should be spread apart more for more "H"(height). Unless you reasoning was to have the angles of the two bars set so that the IC (instant center) is on/near the CG. Then you might just want to drop the lower bar and extend the bars forward more.

just my $.02.... (psst. truck arm is cheap and easy, lol)

Personally with an engineering back ground I say go all out and do a 3-link with a watts-link.....just because.

I like it! A couple of suggestions though. I'd probably mount the lower bar *below* the axle. With the axle centered between the two bars, instead of both bars on top, they'll have more leverage to be better able to control axle rotation under acceleration and breaking. without binding or bending. Also the shock needs to be much closer to vertical to be effective. At the angle shown in the drawing I think it'll' be almost useless. And idea for a shock mount - If you attached the lower bar with an extra long bolt - about an inch or inch and half or so longer than necessary - and then, leaving enough thread for the nut to locate the bar, turn the remaining inch or so of the bolt down on a lathe to the inside diameter of the shock eye and tread it for a nut. Basically you would be creating a "stepped' bolt that would locate the lower bar and also double as the lower shock mount. For the upper shock mount, you could weld a square or rectangul of 1/4 inch or so thick steel plate as a reinforcement on the frame where the shock will attach - and then drill it and the frame for a bolt to attach the shock. I'd put the plate on the frame just slightly forward of the axle, so as to allow the shock to attach from below the axle on the lower bar pivot point, to the frame and operate parallel to the frame and at about a 30 - 35 degree forward angle.

If you want to pretty up the front end a little try finding a mercury grill they have chromed horizontal grill bars , and they would look really good on your project. As for your truck that is an impressive piece of work. Rob

Beautiful rear brake set-up! Well thought
out, beautiful and practical! The fact that
with a diesel, because it doesn't have a
throttled intake like a gas engine and thus
doesn't supply any appreciable compression
braking, I think you'll really appreciate the
added braking power and particularly the
fade resistance of the rear disks. Way to
go!

You let off the fuel and it becomes an air compressor...with a VERY high compression ratio. The throttle really has nothing to do with it. Add an inexpensive exhaust brake and you really have something.
