At the Sacramento Merc Gathering I made - besides over 1000 photos - a few small movies of some major cars driving in and out of the building.

The photo post will come... I just have not had the time to sort all the photos I have taken, but I have uploaded most of the movies that I made so I can show those here...

Hirohata Mercury being unloaded from its trailer on Wednesday...

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hIvxpSAKfjM&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hIvxpSAKfjM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

    And leaving again on Sunday...

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CDsoYx2VVlM&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CDsoYx2VVlM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The Wally Welch Mercury was not done and did not have an interior/dash so it needed to be pushed inside. Thats Axle with the red jacket on the right.

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/weCJ_7STfzc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/weCJ_7STfzc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And the Sam Barris Mercury leaving the building...

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pveF-9AJi9c&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pveF-9AJi9c&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I really think that seeing these cars rollin' improves our appreciation of their beauty.Hate to quote that sickly sweet tune, but they really are poetry in motion.

When you see those cars at night on the road it is a whole new perspective.
You dont get the same feel when they just sit under the lights.

    A few more....

Completely restored Stardust driving from the trailer to Building C where the Merc Gathering was held.
The car was restored and improved by Brizio and had a gorgeous black Cherry paint job by Darryl Hollenbeck... the car was finished two days before the show... and I think it needed another inch lower in the back, but other than that it was just perfect.

One I posted in another thread already was this one of the Hirohata Merc... with the light on and Jim getting in to drive the car into the building...

  9. Wow! Thanks Rik. Very cool. I can't imagine how cool it must have been back in the 50's watching all these cars cruise around the streets. Can't wait to see your pictures.

I thought so too... in fact I looked at the car when it was still in hte trailer, and it looked black. Then later outside it already came to live (but there was an overcast that day).
Then at the show I took one photo using my flash light and it came out like this...

    Great movies.

The Hirohata Merc scrapes just like mine coming off the trailer, so we do have something in common.:D

I like watching them move, too...sometimes I have the wife drive into the garage after I get out and open up the door and for some reason it just looks twice as cool moving with the lights on. I also like driving by huge glass windows so I can check out the reflection!

  17. Just like watching a porno!!!!! Cool videos,Rikster!!!!

  18. HA HA HA! There's a building in Seal Beach that's all glass, right off PCH and when I drive by,I ALWAYS check myself out,LOL!!!!

  19. Careful doing that Bob, I had a buddy of mine who had a 54 chevy hardtop( it was a beautiful car) anyway he was checking himself out in a window like that turned back and saw nothing but brakelights in his face. He was lucky and was able to turn out to the right ,cause there was no way he would of been able to stop. I was riding shotgun and I almost shit my pants.

  23. No Bob is not alive. I believe he was murdered.

  24. Thank you for thinking to capture these great cars actually moving and making the sounds expected. What a concept - just what they should be doing. You do the business Rikster.

Thanks for taking the time. Awesome videos! I too love seeing them drive, even though for short bit, very cool none the less! As stated, one can only imagine what it was like in SoCal in the late 40's thru the 50's.

True Kustom history on the move! Man I love it!!! And to think back in the day I kind of took them for granite, now I want to see them in person as much as I can. Seeing these cars again I know why kustoms were my first love growing up in Southern California..... Beautiful! Just Beautiful. Thanks Rikster.

  30. Thanks Rikster for taking the time to post these. It's great hearing them and watching them roll by. So many cars we view are just static displays. Nice to see the historical ones actually moving with sound. It really made me appreciate them so much more. Keith
