Just a little about myself. I am 22 years old I Moved to the Harrisburg area for a job at posies after attending Wyo tech. Posie Originally Hired me to be an In house upholster after he saw my work on the Interview at Tech. although I never really did much upholstry for posies I did learn to fabricate there, but i mostly did body work. and prep stuff for wendell. I worked at posies just shy of 2 years. I met another person my age named Blake Tomlinson, who also went to Wyo tech, and also worked at posies at the time. He and I Had the desire to learn this craft. At this time Posie took notice in our Interest in our sheetmetal interest and came to us with some interesting drawing of some kind of headrest. Ken gave us one shot to build this thing and we ended up building 2 of them Although these headrests were a group effort by "Team Posies" All of the actual shaping of these pieces were done by Blake and I. This was our first Real project other than some bowls and blisters. After that project I knew I wanted to learn this Craft. I began attending Events called metalmeets... There I met some of the finest craftsman out there and not to mention downright great people! There I learned so much from so many individuals. After seeing a lack of potential to grow under Posies wing, I left to do Upholstery work for Carlevale Custom Cars doing Interiors Here are some Pictures of the Upholstery work I did While I worked there. Now I currently work out of my friend's shop in his back yard where I am building His 27 T In the Harrisburg area. I truly love to work with metal. Just simply trying to put it out there. Ive also been doing some pin striping as a hoby

Hey First of all Thank you guys and girl for what you all said. I read all your comments and Im not going to Lie, Its feels good to know that people appreciate the work that Im doing, but here's the thing. there is someone else out there smiling at this post because they have done what I'm doing and more. They just never had the opportunity to post it on the internet because it probably didn't exist when they did it. I post it because I want to share my passion with people who share the same excitement about making a grill shell or setting up a stance on a car. I read these responses and I dont know what to say. I wear pants just like you guys. I just Love to work with metal. Hey Blake (Redbeard) Your right, The shrinker stretcher Aint gonna break like the last one. Have fun at the LA school of design! Thanks Baileigh! for getting all the wonderful projects Under one search and for the opportunity to win a life lasting tool. thanks again guys.

And another huge talent makes his way to the HAMB!
Simply beautiful work. Your bio says fabricator/upholsterer. It's obvious that you can fabricate like nobody's business... are you as good with the upholstery? Man.... talent. Thanks for showing us your work. I think I'll melt down my English wheel now. P.S. Yes, I hate you as well.

I also do a little metal shaping after attending an excellent school in Crossville Tenn ( Metalcraft Tools) and had to call the instructor and have him look at these pics of your work. He is in the process of doing a body himself. You are very gifted in this art and I can truly appreciate the work that you have done. I have done several small panels and lots of custom bikes but nothing like this. How about the panels that you cut off the car, are they for sale?

unfortunately The old panels arn't for sale Im going to keep them for a pattern just in case I need to make another one. I wish i had 10 of these things made so I had some for sale but i don't. I could make another one but the time into one with the tools I got almost wouldnt be economical being that i am basically doing this in someones back yard with some pretty basic tools... does anyone else make a 27 T out of metal??? whats up with the shadow rods anyone had any experience with them? thanks guys! ~CustomJ

Amazing work. Very inspiring too. I wish I'd gotten into this part of the hobby at a younger age.
I would love to be able to work metal as well as you do young man. I guess it's never too late to learn. Anxious to see the finished product.

everything is steel but the trunk and nose, the hood and hood sides will be aluminum, but the basic T body is all steel, I guess my philosophy is make it light where it counts...

great lookin car though man! i love 27 roadsters almost as much as i do 29's, but not quite. either way the dry lakes look with the track nose and aluminum use definitely is bad ass. hopefully someday i will have the space and tools to build my dream roadster too. -Jr.

Congratulations, it looks like the award is well-deserved.
You're a fairly young guy but it sounds like you've got your head on straight. Your responses to the accolades you're receiving have been well thought out and intelligent. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work. Keep it up. |

Just got off the phone with Jay. He is very, very excited. In fact, he was so excited, he couldn't even make up his mind on what machine he wants. I told him to sleep on it and give us a call in the morning. Sounds like a nice kid!
Good job Jay!

Today has been one of the most unbelievable days of my life. Looking back on my earlier years in my parents garage In Webster NY, making a mess of it with fiberglass bondo and metal shavings, makes me realize how lucky I am to have such amazing parents who have given me support every step of the way. I never thought In my wildest dreams it would have led me this far. Thanks Mom and Dad, for never giving up on me. Special Thanks to Shane, Baileigh Industrial, and the Jalopy Journal, For hosting such an Unbelievable opportunity to win such a quality piece of equipment, The generosity shown by you all, has brought together such an amazing group of Talented craftsman and Artist. I think I can speak for us all when I say that we all genuinely appreciate it. The hard work and dedication demonstrated by all of the contestants is to say the least Incredible, and Inspiring at that. It has been such a privilege to be apart of such a well rounded knowledgeable community. I have only been involved with the Jalopy Journal for about a few months now, and I have seen some of the finest quality workmanship in that time, than I have seen in all of my life. I can not thank all of you enough for your encouraging words that were said to me before and during this contest. As much as I truly love to work with metal, there have been nights so frustrating while trying to learn this trade, that it has almost drove me to the point of insanity! Thankfully I have had People such as yourselves coaching me through it along the way. I know that I would not be where I am sitting today without you. Id also Like to thank John marks (JTM64), for providing me with such an positive and free-flowing atmosphere to build this car, The character and patients you have shown me since I started working on the 27, has been an outstanding example of how to go through life. You have been a shining light to me and are GREATLY appreciated. Id also Like to thank Bob Early, (37cpe) for never hesitating to help me when I have needed a special tool or part made for this car. your a master machinist, and a friggin genius at that! Lastly and most certainly not the least, I would like to thank the entire Metalmeet Community, and my 2 votech Teachers Joe Alati, and Dan Boyler at the Easter Monroe Career Center. without all of you, my talent with metal would simply not exist. I hope to see all of you at the Jalopy Showdown under the metal tent, Until then I will continue to post the progress on Johns 27 T. There are no secrets here. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. Thank you all again.
Sincerely, ~CustomJ

Well.. there you go.. youth, talent and humility.
Just never let it go to your head. Someday you will think you are good and some 22 year old "kid" will. show you up.. well hey, YOU get the picture.

Hi.
I'm not an everyday HAMB reader, but I was wondering who the hell was the winner of this prize. And the truth is that you really deserve it. I'ts amazing to see how simple every operation seems to be in your hands (and how tricky it actually is in mine). Congratulations. By the way, I hate you too.

Custom J,
Congrats on the award and having learned the the craft My God what a talent! Have you met Zach Suhr yet? I don't know what they put in that Harrisburg PA. H20, but I sure gotta grab a swig. Two such great tin benders in such a close proximity. Good luck with your friends project, It's a shame to put a seat(s) over that nice bead work.

Awesome work!
![]() One question...Did you do anything special to your floor panels to keep them flat with all the beads rolled into them? I have never been able to keep anything that flat after it comes out of the bead roller.

I picked another shrinker stretcher. I wanted to pick something that I would use a lot, and so far Ive used this tool on every panel Ive made for Johns 27 T. The reason why I chose another one is because now I can leave the shrinking jaws in one and the stretching jaws in the other. I have used many different kinds of these tools and this one is definitely the best bang for the buck. It does 18 guage steel no problem and that's what I need since that is what i am most commonly using. most of them out there can stretch but any one under 1200 bucks that i have used cant shrink 18 gauge worth squat. Take it from me Im about as hard as they come on tools and this one works like the day I got it. Thanks Baileigh, I'm sure I will be using it every day Sincerely

Not to much progress. I have been freelancing all over and I have only worked on it 1 week since the last time I posted. The headrest at the bottom will be donated at the jalopy showdown. I got 2 weeks to do the belly pan. Im hoping to bring the car to the jalopy showdown as well, but it wont be done. Im hoping to at least have the metalwork done. Ill be under the metal tent with metalmeet. see ya there. Thanks ~J

Great build. Some of the best metal fab work I have seen. I need to build a new rear body section on a 27 T Roadster I just found but I don't think that mine would turn out any where near the way yours did. I need to learn panel fab skills from guys like you. Great work, can't wait to see the rest of your build.

__________________________________________________ _____________ Hello, I own the roadster. I am not much of a poster but a few fellow hambers contacted me to check out the thread. I have three things to say about the car and as follows: 1. It has a unique look and an awesome stance (at least in my eye). The T is still for sale or trade. 2. This could only "come back around 1 day" with a new owner. 3. Thanks again to the HAMB for this awesome site and Baliegh for sponsoring this contest it was a great idea and a motivation to many people who love to build and create neat old cars. Hopefully they do it again. |

I got a call From my good friend Ron Yeager Owner of Ron's Rods In Kingsville MD, to come work on Frank Morawski's Track T, This car needed a belly Pan Hood and Hood sides before it goes to Pebble Beach. Great opportunity to work with Ron and frank on such a cool project. It ran 180 In 1952 on the flats.

I just got back from Manteno IL. from a 2 week Trial Period at Rad Rides by Troy. Had a blast and met some of the finest craftsman In the Trade. Looks like I'm Joining the team as an Upholsterer/Fabricator.

Hi Jay. I know Ron Yeager and Frank Morowski. I remember when Franks car was at Ron's. I stop in his shop from time to time just to see what's going on. Ron speaks very highly of you and your talent. I can see why. Good luck at Rad Rides. -- Andy
