I finnaly finished the Merc I have been on for two years. She turned out OK, but teh last 6 or 8 months of body/paint and final assembly sucked the life out of me.

Of course, now it's done, it has to go. I only have room for my Model A and one project, and the Model A will NEVER leave, so the Merc gets the boot.

Anyway, here are a few pics from the last two years...

This one has been posted a million times, but this was her two years ago.

New floors, door jambs, trunk, rockers etc.

The stock Merc front getting teh axe.

Making new panels and stuff before.

    After.

    Her new mill.

First trip around the block. There were 13 diffrent colors on the car fron all the donor cars.

    Beginning teh chop.

Chop is done. Now 6 months of bodywork.

    And now, all done.

    'Nuther.

    And, 'nuther.

And, finally. My very last pic of her. She went to live with my uncle in N. Carolina, where she will live out her days in pampered climate controlled bliss.

And that, is all she wrote...I learned lots of new stuff, and it kept me (pretty much) out of the bars for a few years. Special thanks to my understanding family and everyone who was kind enough to pass along knowledge, parts or an encouraging word.

Stay tuned for the next heap out of the Abone garage, a 39 Ford coupe, which is also a large piece of shit..

    See ya, -Abone.

Youre a bigger man than I, tackling quite a starter like that. Good show. Great work and nice finish.
Your Uncle should be quite the happy man.

I like threads like this. That build is inspirational. Gives me the resolve to keep going on what was once a pile of crap. Thank you.

every time I look at my rusty ass Model A, I think of You, Jeff.

I realize that once I replace all the rusty shit I will pretty much have a brand new car, but hey! That's half the fun!

well, that and I want to outrun You with an Oldsmobile, but that's just for beer drinkin and fish story purposes.:D

  24. Beautiful car. Very inspiring. I'll need to go back through your posts 'cause it looks like the car has interior, and I must have missed that thread.

I know what you mean about the bodywork sucking the life out of you. I'm in the same boat with my Hudson. After the body swap, all the rust repair, and chop, I'm into the bodywork pretty deep at the moment, and I hate it.

Was it worth it to you? I mean, in the end, are you glad you built the car?

It was just last night that I was thinking, what the hell am I doing? I have a ton of rust repair to do. What you started with is not far off of what i am dealing with right now. Beautiful car, this is an inspiration. Thank You.

  26. That car is B-E-A utiful! At least it's in the family, so you have visiting rights. Do you have any hi res copies of the second to last picture? I'd like to hang that in my garage for inspiration.
