-This morning I visited my friend, Dan Webb and his Daughter Ashley at their shop. As you may, or may not, know Dan is nearing the completion of his interpretation of Harry Miller's "Golden Submarine"
-Whereas the original "Sub" was (duh) a shade of gold, Dan's car will remain entirely natural steel, aluminum, brass and titanium. The motor is a 400 horsepower Ford Racing 4 cylinder that runs on alcohol. It has an enclosed drivehaft,a billet in-and-out box and a billet quickchange. The car weighs less than 1,000 pounds! Here's a sneak peak at what will debut at S.E.M.A. -Hopefully Dan won't mind my posting my photos.....Mike MORE PICTURES COMING.....

Saw it in progress in Detroit. I hung around it till I was afraid I'd be arrested as a stalker. I am Heading to SEMA to see it done. It may well be the most beautiful piece of automotive work I'll see in my lifetime.

-I know that a lot of guys/gals got their juices flowing talking about Posie's new S.E.M.A. car but Dan's car must be seen in person to be believed. It's truly a 21st century build! ..........Did I mention it's 41" tall?
-Here's several more pictures with 3 more to come. The opening in the left hood side is for the Schroeder drag link/steering box from Dan's good friend Gary Schroeder, who happens to own several real Millers. -Kudos to Dan Webb, Thom Taylor and Craig Naff for their efforts.

I can't wait to see that in motion- it would be awsome to run it alongside the copy of the original Golden Sub at the next Miller reunion!!!
Dan Webb's work on this has been a pleasure to the eyes since it's inception!

Amazing work. But did I hear the "B" word? I'm surprised this car won't debut at Detroit and contend for the Ridler... wasn't that award origionally for race cars?

i could live to be an age that would make Methuzalah seem like a mere lad and work every day of that life at shaping metal and still not have one iota of the talent that Dan holds in his little pinky. A true genius...
I can't wait to get to SEMA to check out this completed work of art. Does anyone know which exhibitor will be the "chosen one?" |

hemifarris, thanks for the latest pictures. An amazing piece of art - each detail shows the vision and skill of the builder, Dan Webb. No doubt we will see more photos when it is completed and driven on a track - Indy comes to mind.

That, absolutely, looks like some form of evil, death implementation with a lot of sex thrown in. Am I over thinking this? Maybe, but dang....... Cool that it's going to stay in it's natural finishes, BUT the rootbeer gold in Thom's rendering is pretty swank too. |

Thanks Mike for posting this. I to am anxious to see it in final stage. When it was at Detroit (the chassis) you could hardly get close enough to see it. With Dan's affection for the Miller cars and Craigs master metal working skills it will be a long time before this one is topped.

I was over Dan's yesterday. All I can say is wow. He keeps saying this is the best he can do. He said that on Ashley's car....and his Duece coupe....and probably his Ridler car 18 yrs. ago.
The more ya look at it, the more fine details jump out at ya. Really cool. Whole lotta room in it, too!

The tires ar Excelsior race tires. 18's up front and 20's out back. Custom Daytons help 'em roll.

It looks awesome and the workmanship is obviously outstanding. It's beautiful.
Will it steer? The front wheels look too close to the body for any functional steering. |

Metal craftsmanship to a high level.
Beautiful. 400 HP and 1000#. My calculations show just over 170 mph in the quarter and about an 8 second flat ET . . . if he can get the power to the ground. Any idea what the original weighed or the mph it turned?

The original was actually quite large.....don't know any specs but early picas of it, (it was built in 1917) with people near it show it shoulder high on an average guy. The body was stripped off it in I think 1919 because of a clausterphobic driver that crashed it on it's side and couldn't get out. It ran a few different engines until it was destroyed. Pretty cool to know Dan and learn all this stuff. Now, if I could only 'borrow' his Miller Dynasty book for a few years....

That's really slick! In the 2007 Great American Race, a guy had a replica he had built. It was nice but boy was it hot inside of it.I can't wait to see this one when it is finished.

found some old pic that I thought might add to it all...somehow words can't wrap around the feelings that this car had and now has for me too. and yes this was commissioned and campaigned by Barney Oldfield and brought Miller his first fame as a car builder.

I have seen this car in Detroit this past year and was amazed at the craftsmanship. Now I am speechless at how this car has evolved into probably one of the greatest hand built cars of the 21st century...PERIOD! Keep up the great work Dan, its beautiful!

Wonder if Dan would consider trading for a Deuce Fordor project?
![]() I may have a new, all-time, favorite automobile. It's like Jesus held Steve Grimes' hand & together they built a car. I love it.

That is a beautiful car! I think that it's fair to say that it's being built "in the spirit".

That louver job is a work of art in itself. I would love to have that many size dies for my press. It must have taken 20 hours to keep changing out the dies and getting everything lined up.Holy shit

With the proper louver cutting attachment in a Pullmax, you can do louvers of any length in one set up. Not nearly as difficult as it appears, with the right tools. |

If the quality workmanship of that project, doesn't inspire you,you need your head examined. Absolute perfection. If the "Mona Lisa" is a "Masterpiece" painting, that is the automotive equivalent!

It looks amazing in the pictures, so I'm sure it's ten fold in person, everyone involved has done an awsome job and the passion, dedication and persistence is paying off in a true work of art. Matt Lesky |

What an eye for style!
The only parts I see that don't look hand hewn are the rear axle tubes and the front axle (which looks like a MW dragster axle)... but then again, those too are probably made by Dan! Awesome! Sam

Dad made the front axle out of 41 30 chrome molly... But he said thank you for comparing his work to Mark Williams... A guy down the street in Dearborn build the axle tubes lol (Ford) but they were also modified quiet a bit..

To me it looks like the track might be a little too narrow and the front tires are definately way too wide. Still it's an amazing bit of craftsmanship and I stand by my "Most intersting hot rod in the last 30-40 years," comment. |

These prints are very high quaility this one is done on a thick canvus (they look very old) and frames very nice (size of print 18’X 12’). Get a little pice of SEMA's Best of show, Webb Automotive Art, Thom Taylor and Harry Millers Golden Sub hanging on your wall. The drawing is done by automotive designer Thom Taylor they are very high quality for an awesome price of $25.00 each..
And are very limited and going quickly... Where else can you get high quality art for such a low price! Message me for detials and if your interested ![]() Note: sorry for the pictures saying win this print they were pictures for a raffel and my pictures I took won't download on the site... Ash, the Sub came out great. Should be fun to see what the next historically significant racecar is in the works. If I was a gambling man I suppose I would put a couple of dollars on Lockhart's Blackhawk. I guess we will have to wait and find out.-Jim
