I have wanted to start posting pictures of this customers car cause of how different I am having to put it together.

The car is an actual 35' 3 window coupe. But because of the bad doors and cowl we got a 36' tudor sedan for its cowl and doors.

I will chop it 3" and fill the roof. Durring the chop I will work on any dents with the sections off the car.

I started by replacing the bad cowl with the new 36 sedan cowl.

Next I cut off the back roof. I want to leave the sedan roof long through the door opening that way when I chop the windshield and put the rear roof back on I should be able to trim and only have one weld through the top insted of adding a section like a normal chop.

Then I got the sedan dors hung. I had to cut off the rear door top so that the doors closed.

While I have the cowl only bolted in place and not welded to the floor I can get my door gaps realy nice.

Once that was done I choped the windshield 3".

Now that I have the dents worked out on the rear part of the roof I got it in place back on the car.

I had to take some relief cuts to get things to open up. I will fill these with new metal.

I want to take out as little out of the rear window as I can by moving the rear part of the window closer to the rear bead. I should be able to get almost an inch under the window and the other 2" through the window. That way it will look better with the size of the other windows.

It's a shame that you had to slice that rear corner after you did such a nice job getting the dents out. Very nice work.

If you look close at the origional 3 window door the top curves all the way to the second beadline. It will be lots more work probably, but that way i get a good door gap with as little grinding on the edge as possible.

Great looking work on an ambitious project!

It looks like you are doing the chop very similar to the way Marcel de Ley did in the Street Rodder Articles May/June 2004, except for the larger rear window.

I chopped my 36 3 window using that article as an example and it came out very nice. I did a 2 1/2" chop.

One thing that my metal man did a bit differently, was to open up the cuts that are made on each side of the rear of the roof. He didn't like the sharp point at the top, saying it may cause "tension" and eventually effect the paint.

    Keep up the excellent work.

I look forward to more photos and updates.

Here are some shots of my car.

Thanks for the pictures! Your car looks great.

I am also using that article that marcel did for street rodder. Those guys are my heros.

I also plan on filling the wedge sections with a wider piece so that it doesnt go to a point.

I got the top all tacked in place this morning. Next I will make the pieces to fill in the slices that I had to take in the roof.

i`ll have to look at that, i picked up a set of sedan doors for mine and didn`t notice the curve being that different at the bottom of the door post.

i`ll dig out my doors this weekend.

  28. No body bracing? Some do and some don't. You don't think it's needed?

With changing the whole cowl I knew that there would need to be some tweeking to get the rear roof to fit. The rear door posts were super solid so I wasnt worried there. And i felt like it would be better if I could move things around. Also where I am using different doors I will have to do some tweeking there to make them fit. All in all I could have braced it but looking back I would have had to cut out the bracing to get it to line up.

If I were doing a chop on a complete car then I would definatly brace it.

Here are some pictures of what I got done last night.

I got both pieces in to fill in the slices that I had to take. And I have the rear window almost ready to weld in. I realy like how the window looks being realy close to that rear bead.
