Facing the question of whether to set my 331 Chrysler back into the cowl and perhaps further so that I can run a hood, I wanted to see all the examples of guys/gals doing it. I know that they were doing this probably earlier then 1950 so let see them and ones from your favorite era! From Three Inches to Three Feet, I want to see how it was done. Also post some pics of the interior if it intrudes that far.

Here's the best pic I could get of my sedan. Firewall flipped and engine back as far as possible. This is the most reasonable for me drivin on the street. One of my favorite is Orange Crate set back with a Potvin.

One of my favorites: Chet Herbert's '32. As much as I like inliners, the fact the he left the shortened drivetrain intact when switching over to the Flathead makes even that much more special.

I like how they push the injectors back into the hole were the cowl vent used to be!

Are there reasons to push back an engine besides the aesthetic? Perhaps weight distribution? School this poor newb.

You got it right there, weight distribution.

The engine is a big hunk-o-weight, and the closer you get it to the CG of the car, the better it's going to handle, because you have basically lowered the vehicle's moment of inertia.

It takes less force, and therefore less time to get the car to change direction. Makes it more nimble, which is always a good thing.
