While I'm on here, I have a bone to pick! Several folks complained about not being able to post later model stock car photos on this site, well, a place was provided on the dogfightmag site for that. The stock car topic is only 13 pages while the vintage oval track modifieds topic is 188 pages, OK folks, step up, we are getting left behind!

I dunno what else to do, Falconred. Did the same thing on Track Forum and I posted all of mine from here, but it's fading, too.

Must have been sudden or unexpected. I just saw him Friday June 29th at the slot car track in Bullitt County Kentucky and except for saying something about back trouble he seemed fine. I remember him when he owned Allstar auto parts (salvage yard) helping racers and some of their crews street cars with good prices on parts. RIP Dan

I'm posting these pics for "jonzcustomshop" Don't really know how historic they'd be, but a better clapped out 4 door racer would be hard to find.
Hope they help.

Historical question:

When did NASCAR standardize the rotation of the roof numbers (bottom on drivers side)?

Thanks,
Marty

I'm not real sure, Marty, but I know that when I got involved big time in the early 60s, most of the "travelling" series had them that way. I figured it was because they ran bigger tracks, a lot of them banked.

Our rules at the old Fairgrounds Motor Speedway called for them to be the opposite of that for the benefit of the scorers.

In both NASCAR and MARC (now ARCA), the individual scorers worked from a stand in the infield, so it makes sense they'd want them that way.

I heard it was when they started racing on the big high banked ovals. When the cars were in the banking, the roof was all you could see.

I received news yesterday that James "Biddle" Ridley, the brother of driver Jody Ridley had passed away yesterday morning. Biddle was a great and enjoyable fellow to be around. His friendly nature and grin made you feel at home. Biddle raced himself early and later became Jody's crewchief.

Rest in Peace Biddle, you will be missed.

Biddle at Boyd's speedway and Jody and Biddle after a win at Georgia International.
