Hot Rods New backing plates from frying pans

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fat ASS Whitewalls, Aug 10, 2008.

  1. Who would have thought you could get Hotrod parts at Bed, Bath, and beyond. I bought these frying pans to cover my disk brakes. They're almost 3/16" thick polished aluminum. I also put trim rings on both sides of the wheels. First picture is what the brakes looked like before. Dean

When you slam on the binders you can hop out and make breakfast. Nice innovation!

I saw some made into air cleaners too.

Lots of things to do with frying pans apparently.

  10. Thats thinking out side the box. Problem is when all the gearheads start showing up to buy frying pans the will raise the damn price.

Dont tell anyone what they are and nobody would know

yea i made two air cleaners out of stainless soup bowls and mr gasket flat air cleaners welded on and filled with lead. the brake pieces look great!! i wish i had though of this before i had to pry old ones off at the junkyard and hammer and dolly them back in shape. this would have been much better.i'm doing import shit the way most people build hot rods, idea still works though, never have liked buying anything in a store or out of a catalog. they are on SU carbs but they would work on just about anything. just change the base pattern[IMG]

actually before i found the soup bowls, i must have looked at hundreds of different pots and pans working on my idea,my wife thought i was nuts, i have about a dozen lying around now with holes drilled in them from different air cleaner designs. I will have to find a pic of my hot rod trailer, looks like a small hot wheels car i tow, I made the "rear end housing" out of a heavy aluminum pot i actually dug up in the yard. put a nice pattern of bolts in it so it looks real. I saw some martha stewart heavy aluminum pots at kmart that would make sweet looking air cleaner bases for any street rod, they were polished too. more then a quarter inch thick aluminum. had potential.fat ass how long did i take you to find frying pans that fit? funny story here you can relate to,I was at one of our hole in the wall department stores measuring cookware with a tape measure, apparently a clerk thought i was nuts, she asked me if she could help me,and i said no,i'm fine. well about five minutes later, here comes the manager with a security guy, wanted to know what i was doing. he was cool though,i explained to him that i was fabricating something out of metal and i was trying to find something in a certain size. he left me alone, but left shaking his head. security guy kept popping up though from time to time.:D

nothing wrong with using cookware, anything is game when you are building car parts. I wonder how many hundreds of headlight buckets are made out of bowls. my wife told me she didn't care what i used but stay away from her cookware.
