So I found a great deal on a little studebaker flathead inline six and have decided to run it in my prewar lakes type build. Im selling off the great 59ab and have decided to be a little "diffrent":D.

Has anyone ever ran this motor before? I know Edmunds made the off brands so im assuming i can find a dual carb intake for it. Also! figure it will fit?

The Offy intake is still in the catalog. The heads are FAIRLY common and don't sell for big money--the Offy and Edmunds heads are the most common, but Bill Cathcart has made a run of heads based on the old Edmunds head "with improvements" with STUDEBAKER cast into the head. He also has split manifolds so you can run duals.

If you go "all out" on a Champion 6 and keep it streetable, you might get about 150 horsepower out of 169 cubic inches!

Sounds like a BALL! Have fun!

I was just checking out this thread when i saw your reference to Salt to Salt

I told Eddie Bauer who had the 53 Stude coupe at his place i would buy it, he said ok but they might need some parts for his coupe 3 or 4 years later i stopped where the car was stored, it was gone

I went to Ed's shop he said i bet your wondering where the car is, were going to build a car for the Bonneville Salt Flats with a six and a turbo

I wanted the car but being at Bonneville in 2000 that pain eased
I have some photos of the car before and after i'll post them here when i scan them

heres Salt 2 Salt before it was Salt 2 Salt

I was waiting for Ed to finish his 53 coupe for many years

I wanted to pay Ed for this coupe right away, he said wait see whats left of it

The guys caught Salt Fever & Salt 2 Salt was born

Just found out a Hamb member turbostude owned the 53, Ed got it from him

Here is the 53 Stude turbo flathead 6 cylinder Bonneville Record Holder in Ed Bauer's shop

This is Ed Bauer's 53 Stude running a 289 V8 Stude motor & Ed's friends 53 coupe on the lift

I had to take photos of my photos, me and the scanner weren't seeing eye to eye one of the reasons there not that clear

Unless your going for looks, don't use an aluminum finned head. You can achieve the same compression by using a 59-60 stude flathead stock head on the earlier engine. It will give 8.0 - 9.0 cr on the earlier engine. These can be purchased NOS for around $50 from studeparts.com

Once I get a chance tomorrow I'll look up the part # in my parts books and post it.

I had a flat 6 in 48 Stude, shaved the 90 thou., Crower reground cam, 30 over, Edmounds duel carb intake, split exaust and polished ports. Ran great. Sold the car, don't know what happened to the engine.

Not that they're easy to find, but Weiand also made heads and dual intakes for the Champion six, as did a Studebaker specialist named Morgan.

Not a stude but they do look similar. This is a Desoto flat 6 in a 29 ford coupe turned roadster on a home made frame. Had a ride in it. Wilcap adapter to a th350. puts you back in the seat pretty hard, even on the Nebraska dirt road.

Odd...I was just reading a "Hop your Stude 6" article last night in a small Car Craft or R&C. Just send me the 59A to cover postage and I'll send it to you.
Intertesting little engines...big issue would seem to be displacement. It ain't got none... so it better be going into something LIGHT.
