So, the new HAMB has been running for a little over a week now. We still have some bugs and some minor quirks to work out, but overall I think it is running pretty smoothly.

My absolute favorite new feature is the prefixes. It absolutely rules to be able to limit my view to posts only about hot rods, customs, tech, history, or whatever...

What's that? You didn't know about prefixes? It's easy... scroll down to the bottom of the forum page and find this little drop down box:

    Prefix1.jpg

Simply select the prefix you want to limit your view to and then hit the "Show Threads" button. Presto... You are looking at threads only relevant to the topic of interest. No off topic crap, no horse shit... Now, that's cool!

But wait... How do threads get a prefix?!?!? Well, so far users have done a pretty good job of giving their own threads prefixes. However, I still find myself giving other people's posts their own prefixes all of the time. I don't mind, but thought I had better teach folks how to do it themselves... Check this out:

    prefix2.jpg

When you are writing a post, simply select one of the topics that most closely matches what your post will be about... That's all there is to it.

Now, not every post should or will have a prefix. If your post doesn't fall under one of the categories, do two things:

    1. Ask yourself if it belongs on the HAMB at all. We let some off topic stuff get by, but self policing is always the best policy. And that said, some legitimate posts on the HAMB literally don't fall into one of the prefixes, so don't feel bad if you go without...

    2. Don't add a prefix. Please don't prefix your post as a "hot rod" post and then write about something other than hot rods... That sucks.

In any case, that's all I have for ya... Use prefixes. They rule.

I think "taxonomy" might be more accurate than "prefix" for what you're doing here. Just a thought.

Can you make one for Deuce, cause you know, they're SPECIAL. But, for real, this feature is cool! Thanks

Unfortunately, they never taught me how. :(

All I wanted to do was post on the HAMB when I grow up. Now I can never realize my dream... :D

hmm, I guess an "advice" prefix would be a little dangerous in the wrong hands.

  21. If you check out the HAMB Drags video post it's been established that newbies can't or don't. Not sure about the rest of us. ;-)

  23. That is a great feature of the new HAMB Ryan, thank you! Is there a way to add prefixes to older threads?

    Cheers

Since there seems to be a lot of these lately, can we get a prefix for "What's it worth" threads?

  30. When are you gonna make a "Un-edited Streetrod Event Coverage",prefix? Since some guys still don't know what the HAMB is all about! lol!!!!
I like the new look and added trinkets...The changes to the profile page is great!!! Way to go Ryan...
