My dad bought this merc from stick city. He traded in a '56 chevy hard top with a 301 in it. Blew the doors off a brand new ss el camino with a 396 on the way there... plus the hard top was only running on 6 or 7 cylinders. Bummer part though was that pops intended to give the merc to me on my 16th birthday. He got forced to sell it when mom and pops divorced. This picture was taken the day of my birth.

  8. Used to cruise by there all the time just to see what was new. There was another lot down the street with hot rods too, damned if I can remember what it was called. Just saw Rabbit a couple of weeks ago

remember Stick City I would always gauk at the cars on the lot.

There was another lot east of there on Whittier blvd near Beach blvd
    Was it called Hotrod City?

  11. Yes, I remember it, and a few others in Pasadena in the early 70's. Drag Street maybe was one of them. Very high prices, but xlnt drooling material. It was the car version of Playboy

the Pasadena one was called "Sticks Unlimited". First, it was across the street from Caldwell Tires on the north side of Colorado just east of San Gabriel Blvd. and then it moved down to Allen and Colorado, SW corner.
Also there was one at about Colorado and Sierra Madre Blvd. called "Drag Street" specializing in Corvettes.
All were in the 60's, early 70's...

  13. I remember it very well!!! There was always all kinds of cars there. Hotrods,Musclecars,Boats,Sports cars, etc. I would stop and look at the cars everytime I went to my brothers house. After it closed a guy opened Highline Motors,on Beach Blvd, just around the corner. It was just like Stick City, but with newer cars, mostly Streetrods. He's in Brea now.

  14. Yeah, yeah, that's it, Drag Street. I drooled over a 65 Burgundy Fastback Vette (converts were not so cool then), for $2500, and all I had was $2000:(:(:(:(

I remember Stick City, sold them a 49 Ford PU I had back in 75-76 when
you could'nt hardly give them away. I was racing flattrack and needed something more practical for hauling race bikes.
that truck was one of those that got away, wish I still had it

Flat Track? We used to venture to Corona on what, Thursdays. They alternated every other Thursday, offering 1/2 mile and short week one week, then TT and short track the next. This was about the time when MX started to dominate the interest of people, and the Class C turnout was beginning to wane

My buddy and I used to walk down to Stick City when we were kids and check out all of the Kool Rods. Whittier blvd and Beach Blvd had a bunch of good shops back then. It was like a mall for Hor Rods.

  23. They sponsored the Corvair for a while.

And as for the Corona Flat track comment. Although I was a motor crosser, after I retired I decided to give Flat track a try. Bought a Bultaco 250 Astro (this was in about 78) and headed to Corona. In practice I felt pretty good, seemed fast enough until about the 4th lap a practice when this Kawasaki flew by me like I was standing still. Could actually hear the tire squealing on the blue groove. So fast I couldn't read the name on the leathers. At the end of practice I came in to the pits, handed the bike to my crew guys and just walked away without saying anything. Now I was no slouch as I finished third in the main in my 1st half mile. I walked over to this nondescript box van and saw the leathers hanging on the back - Wayne Rainey! I didn't fell quite so bad but knew that at 22 I wasn't the next rising start and never rode flatttrack again.
As for the TT later in the program, I found that an Astro with no front brake won't turn in at the first corner off the main straight without scaring all the pit guys watching and streaking my own shorts.

Stick City was owned by my Grandfather. His name was Wayne Smith. Saddly he passed away this year on May 7th.

My mother and my sister are in the process of organizing the things he left behind, including photos and other things he left behind from Stick City.

I know he had a picture of himself and the Beach Boys on the wall in his house. I'll get it posted, when I get it.
