I found a nice project , and like all Projects it has it's ups and downs first it was chopped , not done right then had the roof removed and a new one place on Stock and well done . It has alot of chasis updates like air ride and four link rear . It's only a frame and shell right now with some new aftermarket parts alot of stock trim is MIA . They even bought a Fat mans front end kit even though they have a new front end with air ride . For the most part rust is very little , it will need a new trunk pan and fire wall as they cut out the old one to smooth it out . They also redid the dash with aftermarket gauges and new chrome . The rest of the car looks like a Media blasted ready for body work monster .
The owner is asking 4,000.00 he wanted 6,000.00 any thoughts ? i know hard to tell with out picks but give it your best shot . thanks C1 |

$5.00 to $50,000...depending on how bad YOU want it...or...whatever the traffic will bear...

Couple questions first. #1 Really need a pic! #2 Is it a Coupe or 4dr? #3 $4k doesn't sound bad, even if it's a 4dr #4 I'm guessing it doesn't have a drivetrain, cause you didn't mention it #5 What are your plans, cause it matters if you want to keep it or make money on it. #6 NEED A PIC!!! Feel free to PM me any questions.

I sold my 51 for 4k about 12 years ago with what amounted to a shell with glass, a stretched 75 Monte Carlo frame, Desoto grill, cad bullet tail lights and not a lot more for 4k about 11 years ago. It wasn't for sale but the guy caught me at one of those times I said would never happen.
4k sounds like the bargain of the week if it has what you describe and is a pretty solid car. And I agree with what Bad Bob said. He pretty well said what most of us wanted to say in the first place.

accordin' to the other thread close to the top, 'bout $700. 'course I didn't look at what that other car looks like, but a Merc shell is a Merc shell. We sold a lousy one as a 2-door conversion kit for about that same money.
The chick with the wedding dress made out of somebody's picture window curtains is funny.

does it have fenders and a hood? rear end? inner fenders, or any of the other peices for the front?looks pretty thin for $4000 to me. not that really i know what mercs go for, maybe there harder to find than i think, but id tell him $2500. and id still be have an uneasy feeling.

You have to ask yourself a lot of questions ,, What exactly are you looking for . Do you want the four link rear , updated frame , updated dash or gauges ? I wouldn't . You say it comes with a FatMan front end ,,, FatMan spindle kit ? Either way its not worth much in the big picture . Even if you do want these exact updated components . Do you want a project at this stage thats been modified by someone else possible with changes you would have done even slightly different . Is there quality in the work done . Even if all the work is top shelf . In the case of this car ,, It needs a enormous amount of work and parts . Can you do the metal work . You are looking at a huge amount of work and or money depending on your situation . I also think your looking at very long project . The main thing you have here is a 2 door body . A cut up and welded back together body thats still cut up and missing parts . Of coarse this is just my opinion . Hope it helps you . One more thing . You said the top was welded back on "stock" height and it was done right . Don't count on it . Count on it being fucked up just like the last one that was welded on until you can get some stock doors hung to check the gaps . Again , not a huge problem in itself but something else to consider .

Duder. Is this South Jersey? If so I think I might have heard about this thing awhile back. I think a father and son bought it, were going to get it together, spray it flat black and flip it. Might be wrong, but it seems familiar.
Are you in Toms River? Im up in Union, near Elizabeth or Newark and know these things pretty well. It doesnt look terrible, but doors are a huge part too. Are they solid on the bottom? If not its a pain in the ass. Keep us posted on what you do.

If you decide to buy I would make sure you have skills to weld this car back together .Or have real deep pockets to pay some one .I just picked up a 51 4 door Mercury for my wife I cant wait to get started on it payed 1800 with clear title .If that is the direction you are looking to go that's not a bad price .My 2 cents

Hey c1run1 go to the post by Flamedabone titled "I'm finally done block sanding my Merc" and see what he started with. IMHO it's one of the most impressive transformation and resurrection I have ever seen.

Ratatat,
thanks i checked out that thread (I'm finally done block sanding my Merc ) thats a awesome thread . I'm sure i could do something with it i have the tools and the time . what i don't have is a garage big enough for all my cars . I think the best thing to do is make it look like a car again and find it a home . |

When I see the firewall missing, that is the first thing I thought of. It would be easy to have those front posts out of alignment without the firewall to keep everything in the position they were originally intended to be. Are those posts that the doors mount to, perpendicular to the floor or even parallel to each other?? I agree with Icebox, you really need to get some doors on there to see how aligned those major parts of the body are.
