Can you change the pinion seal on a 57 Chevy rear end without taking the 3rd member out of the car?

Mark the pinion flange, pinion, and the nut, count number of threads the nut is on the pinion, remove nut and flange .Replace seal ,install everything back to its same position, tighten nut back to same spot. If you did every ok it should be fine

  3. Follow the above instructions, Pack the back of the seal area with grease so that when your wacking the new seal in you don't knock the spring out and use loc-tite on the nut>>>>.

If your pinion has a groove worn in it, as mine did, a new seal might not fix the leak.
I tried a new seal and wound up having to get a sleeve to put over the pinion.
Wish I had a part # for ya but it said speedy sleeve on the box. Got it at napa.
Worked like a charm!! Good luck!
