I got it running today following a bit of faffing with the ignition. I finally got stuck in and converted it to 12 volt, something that I should have done from the start - it cranks over an absolute treat now. Sounds nice through the open header cone, runs pretty smooth and responds well. Just needs another oil change and some carb tweaking.
The oil lines have been redesigned for the umpteenth time and I've done some work on the wiring to help 'age' it a bit. New coil, dizzy cap and rotor arm, plugs and leads fitted. Some low quality video clips here: The old man came out to see what the noise was! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe_3HRGgrLc http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-mRdy-r1hcQ

Those 42-47 GMC and Chevy trucks are nice looking and make great rods but don't go with that over the fender header. It looks like a roadster piece found on the side of the road and used 'cause it was free, does absolutely nothing for the truck at all.
Blackwalls are the way to go on trucks. WWW just look like a city boy in the country. |

I agree with moving the gas tank. Back in the day when I got my 46 trk. I kept smelling gas and thought maybe it was running too rich or something. First time I pulled the seat after I had filled it up I saw the tiny pin holes in the top of the tank caused by rust. I also used to smoke back then, shows how smart my mama made me. Anyway, Tanks inc. makes one that bolts between the rear of the frame. They made it for late 40s @ early 50s Chev. trks. but it fits yours also. Price is not bad. You can locate fill through the bed or like mine ,route hose fill over to the rear side since I did not want to cut holes in the bed since I have a stake bed. If I can figure out how to send pictures on this damn thing I'll send you a pm. Maybe my 7 yr. old grandson will show me. Good luck.

By the way if you consider trying 7000 GW like it shows in the mock-up you will not have to worry about any of it because it will most likely brake the frame in half

I'd go with a modern mustangII style front suspension to get it down. Whitewalls definetely don't belong on trucks {IMHO} and the lakes pipe doesnt' work for me but what do I know? This is mine.

Hi,
I haven't got any yet for myself, but they are what I intend to use. The place i found them is here http://www.holden.co.uk/displayprodu...raps%2C+Lacing By the way guys, look at the youtube clips above - you will see where the header ended up, not above the fender! I am also running blackwalls all round.

That style header is a bitch to build...trust me. I built the ones On speedaddicts car, so I am pretty familiar with them.

Nearly finished:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=QUfQjz_l3-s Well, nearly ready for the road anyway. I doubt it will ever be finished. Still got some tinwork to bolt together and some wiring to finish. I've located some 7.50s for the back and then I need to get the droptube built up ready for installation. Mark

The truck passed it's mot yesterday! I can't get the grin off my face. Now comes the painful wait to get the registration documents back before it hits the highway.

It appears to have an Arizona Historic plate.. Was this an AZ truck ? Are you allowed to display the copper plate ?

Yes it came from Pheonix, AZ 2 years ago. I'm not able to use the plate though. It has to be re-registered with an age-related ID (3 letters and 3 numbers) and fitted with pressed ally black & silver plates front and rear.

I dig it, and like the exhaust dump behind the wheel.

I officially hit the road yesterday for the first time with the Chevy.......and it's stopped raining!
![]() It drives pretty well and pulls like a train. It is just crying out for some taller gears. So I need to get moving with the T5 installation and the new rear end. Nearly finished the build of the new drop tube front end - it's all painted and the kingpins should arrive tomorrow. Apologies for all the pics, but I am just a little bit chuffed and excited right now. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mark.
