The next to the last pic is a nailhead Buick V8. Is that in the bus? Wouldn't surprise me in that a lot of trucks had V8's swapped for more power. Used to be a dump truck in my home town with a 394 Olds in it.

40-41, the overall shape is the same but the 42-7 had one side bar and no stainless. that hood should also have a V8 logo stamped in the sides next to the louvers

The Ford Truck is a 41 (or possibly 40) 3/4 ton or 1 ton. The hood on the larger trucks is more similar to the 42-47 than the 1/2 ton. See the large wheels also. If the flathead is stock it is the smaller 3-1/16"bore 221. It probably also has the 4spd crash box. The flathead is still worth grabbing. If you don't want to work on it, and can't find a buyer for the whole thing you can part it out.
When you are told that you want the newer one, the '46-'53 are all good blocks. In '48 the trucks got the newest block and in '49 the cars got it. The earlier model has the half bell cast on it so it makes it a little harder to swap transmissions. |

The engine is a Buick 322 Nailhead. They were put in big Chevy trucks (and busses, I guess), from '57-'59. Factory installation.
based off the '56 322, the cam was different. More torque, less top end. Well, less top end then the passenger car Nailhead, and they weren't known for top end at all. If nothing else, the manual flywheel in that is desirable. I'd be interested in seeing what the bellhousing looks like. -Brad

The Chevy looks like a 51-2 for sure, hard to tell from the pictures. Would be worth getting to part it out, stuff for the early 50's Chevs are bringing good money. Pull off all the sellable parts and scrap the hull.
Someone here will buy that truck cab/doors, should be worth $300, the hood and the flathead would also be worth saving. The frame and axles probably won't be since it's a big truck. The engine in the bus is definitely a Buick Nailhead. As others have said, the stick flywheel and clutch parts are worth a good amount, lots of people searching for those. If the bellhousing is good, save that too. The actual transmission is worthless. The engine is probably worth saving too but the stick parts are the real treasure. Also, take a peek at the dash in that bus, a lot of old busses had cool gauge panels that would be worth grabbing. You're doing a good thing by saving this stuff. Hopefully you can turn a little profit and get some neat stuff in the process. I look forward to seeing what's in the barn. |
