first of all i gotta say a BIG thanks to my buddies vic, darren, and my girlfriend linda,,,,
the chop went very well, and couldn't have accomplished it without their help,,,,,,

i woke up at 4 AM this morning, and was so excited about chopping the car, i couldn't fall back asleep....

vic and darren arrived at 9 AM, and after a brief discussion of the plan,,we immediately began cutting,,,,,,,we didnt waste any time getting to work...

linda took these great pictures, and brought us snacks and drinks (thanks hon)...

my cat just had to be involved too,,,

    pretty mild chop...3" front,,,4" rear..

here are some pictures from the day....

    post mock up...

MAN,,,we got a lot done,,,these guys came to work!!.cant say enough good things about vic and darren,,,,they are TRUE friends,,everyone should be so lucky...i owe you guys BIG time,,,,,,,,,,THANKS again guys,,you rule,,,,,,,,,,,,,

lots of tedious work left to do,,inside bracing,,rewelding the package tray, b pillars, quarter window curved corner, some small filler pieces in the roof,,,etc, etc,,,,,,,,
many hours ahead,,,but we accomplished SO much more than i thought we would today,,,,
very happy with the chop, proportions, etc.....

choprods was VERY helpful with information on doing the chop..if you are considering chopping a shoebox, i HIGHLY recommend you buy one of his how-to guides,,,,,

damn,,,im still pumped up from today,,,,i'd go back and do more,,but i'm just about out of gas in the welder!

Dude, awesome. I wish I could've come down to see it/help. Looks real good, now just make the quarter window a good shape and its perfect. The hard part is over.

I can't believe you got that much accomplished in one day...you'd better buy your buddies a bunch of beer.

I believe you. It looks like the rear window was never disconnected from the top. Someone spent some time figuring that trick out.

the top is cut away at the BOTTOM ,,a neat trick and one that works well,,totally avoids that "dip" that happens when you cut it the conventional way....
i typed "video" by mistake,,,meant to say instruction package,,

One day? I feel so freaking ashamed of myself. Im going to live in my garage all week and finish this damn Merc chop now, see you suckers in a week!!!

Looks great Jim, had no idea you were going to make it that far. That idea on the rear glass paid off bigtime. And man the old 51 in the background sure gave up the ghost already! Foreshadowing pic? ;)
