i saw that the other day and watched the video 3 times in a row with my mouth hanging open. it's incredible the way that thing moves and balances. scary as shit that robotics has gotten that advanced too. did you guys notice the payload that thing was running around with? combined like 600lbs and still moving like that. imagine how much beer that thing could carry around at a car show for you ;)

Yeah, but can it lick it's crotch?

Seriously, that is scary as all hell, I'm reminded of all the sci-fi movies that left a lasting impression through the years, ED-209 from RoboCop, the Terminator and a bunch of other shitty b-flicks. I often wonder how accurate they are, I mean just how smart and capable and resilient and "human" do we really want to make a machine? Creepy.

    I like old cars.

the way it solves problems as it goes, the way it regains its balance is really scary!! that is some killer engineering for sure i guess a terminator is next in the works. the main question i have is ....why did they build it, who is funding the project(really).

We fear what we don't understand or comprehend-sure spooked me for a second or three?!
At first it looks like two guys carrying a payload of paper wasp nests? Haa haa

Imagine that thing coming at you in the woods on a moonlit night?
    Bet it couldn't catch me!

Wonder if "dysplasia" of the paired-walking legs could defeat it? Whitetail deer have this problem;their hips do not enable them to control the outward movement of their legs and they sprawl outward.
A bungee cord connection might strengthen that? A flexible outward limiter?

Cool machine.Hope it helps us humans somehow?

BigDog is being developed by Boston Dynamics with the goal of creating robots that have rough-terrain mobility that can take them anywhere on Earth that people and animals can go. The program is funded by the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA).

That is the coolest! Craziest! Scariest! Most techno-freaky thing I have ever seen! I TOO watched that video with my mouth wide open!!

I come to the HAMB for all my news... including updates in technology.

    **shocked**

If I saw that thing coming at me in the woods I wouldn't know rather not to stop and rubber neck or run like hell!
