Well, I said I was going to start the next challenge on Friday, but I can't wait... here it is.
I love lowrider art .. I love to draw them, I love the amount of detail and passion these guys put into their cars. I love the history.. so.. Your mission is to create some lowrider art. Whatever that means to you.. just make it awesome. ![]() ![]() There are a couple things I want to stress.. 1. Keep the comments to a minimum.. we want more art than talk.. and this is not the place to debate what makes a lowrider or art Positive comments are encouraged.. but please don't quote the picture ![]() 2. Only post art that is yours and you created for this challenge. This is the only way to keep it fair for all the art guys. 3. Have fun and push the concept as far as you can. 4. this is the HAMB.. so no DONKS of DUBS please ![]() The challenge will go for 4 weeks (March 21), so there's plenty of time to do something incredible. GO!

more from flyingpolock
http://pckstudio.wordpress.com/2008/...whipped-cream/ Kev, that is super cool.. remember though, the art should be done specifically for the challenge.. I guess it's possible you whipped that out in less than 3 hours, if so I'm super impressed!

I was supposed to do it all vector but couldn´t get the look I was after (still didn´t). And by the time I got to the wheels I was so pissed that I threw some photo wire wheels there. Maybe I´ll get back to it some day.

Hit the road Jack!
A 1937 Lincoln Zephyr has such naturally flowing lines that you can't help but want to turn it into a ground scraping, tail dragging, lowrider. I tried a late model Continental but I wasn't getting a traditional vibe out of it so here's "Black Jack". I think the acid test for doing these art challenges is this... Would you like to own and drive what you design? I would love putting on some Ray Bans, a panama hat, slouching down behind the wheel and just plain go cruising in this one.

Okay, I read the original rules and Nate asked for more than straight photochopping...but I did it anyway. Tried to push it a bit. Before: ![]() After:

Is this challenge open to any choice of lowrider car/truck, or just the two choices in from the first post? I know that was one of the rules from the earlier challenges, but seems like it may have been relaxed some, which I think is good for this particular challenge anyway.

fortypickup: that's awesome.
Here's an analog-from-scratch attempt (way more enjoyable than working a photochop anyway...) This is based on photos I took at the Seattle Roadster show, although my sketch doesn't do the car justice.

Gary.... MAN!!!! Too cool, as always...
baader, carartNICK,fortypickup, gilty, nate.... all tremendous work!! This is bringing out some great ideas.... I'm warming up at present... hope you dig it... Inspired from a line in a poem titled "I Am Who I Am".... "I am from the past, heading for the future." My take on a decidedly classic look, with some minor, modern touches.

This is my 60 mercury monerey. I've been trying to get around to doing a rendering... The body is stock only shaved emblems.
These cars have the door handles in the trim so no shaving there. The only thing major is a 59 chevy front bumper w/lower valance and copperish red paneling . It will have hydro's but just up and down from 1 battery. cant wait to get started.

Clark Kustoms, That's a beautiful design idea. Funny thing is, I was originally working on a 1960 Pontiac version of that. It would have been red and white. I may have to post the roughs later. For now tho...
Here's what I offer up for your consideration and critique: First up, "El Poncho Lo-Bo" A 1947 Pontiac Streamliner Poppy found in Uncle Hector's old hey barn in El Paso. Junior pulled some tail lights off a '48 to give it that slightly modern look. He then cut the hell out of it to get it down below the stratosphere. ![]() The concept roughs ![]() Up next we have a requisite Chevy. This one is actually based on a Model kit my son and I built. It may be more of a mild custom but it was made with "low rider" in mind. ![]() The concept sketches

Here's the one I didn't think I'd finish. I probably shouldn't have but when ya got a vision,
ya got a draw it. '65 PONTIAC CATALINA "AZTEC CRUIZ"

Just one more reason the HAMB is so freakin' awesome. Tons of talent, and ALL of you guys have it, just great work!
Now if I keep practicing, this line may actually be straight!

Here's some drawing I did back in high school when I was supposed to be learning algebra. I had to dig them out of an old box in my bathroom. Good thing the money my parents spent sending me to a private college prep school didn't go to waste. Enjoy.

OK, here's mine.
The aluminum bomba. Not your traditional "art", but it will sure look cool hanging in the garage. It's bead rolled aluminum, approximately 21x32 inches.

56 olds coupe, not chopped ( didnt look right with it), 51 hudson grill (because it looks like an 8, ode to the rocket 88),56 buick tailsection, lace roof , minor trim mods, wire wheels. the more i think about it you could probably call it a custom more so than a lowrider, you guys be the judge though.

I don't do much more than sketch these days, I prefer to build stuff out of styrene and metal......You guys have done some beautiful work here. Here's something waaaaay not traditional, but waaay low anyways......(No, it didn't come out of the box this way....
)![]() And this one reminds me of one of your sketch's, the old Divco truck...

BigWigRaceCars First time's a charmer! That embossed sheet is killer. And it's great to see a variety of materials used in the challenge!!!
flyingpolock CONGRATS BUDDY!!! You definitely earned this one, those drawings are sweeeeet! That pick-up looks like candy! Here's what I used for the side panels... ![]() Three of my kids helped on the Catalina's final look (Maybe that would have helped me garner the sympathy votes???) Noelle, 11, provided the 1" x2" Old Maid card to use for the panels Abby,12, suggested the burnt orange metallic paint. Ian, 13, said it had an 'Aztec' look so some color and the name are accredited to him. The comp layout was, basically, ripped off from Flyin'Brian"P" (sort of) Thanks to those who voted for my kids!

Your entry sums up what it's all about: INVOLVEMENT. You brought in the kids for some inspiration, and what says lowrider more than family? Well, besides the lead singer of War... I think he's cornered the market on SAYING "lowrider". I'm gonna go sleep now. Very cool, Jigger.... thanks for sharing!
