I just got my latest member notice in the mail from the Blackhawk Museum and there is an exhibit called ""The Original Rat Fink" coming from February 13 to June 15.
Looks like we need another HAMB invasion of the museum! If it is the same exhibit that was at the Petersen, IT'S AWESOME!!! ![]() The text reads... Ed "Big Daddy" Roth...The Original Rat Fink explores the life, times, and creations of designer, entrepreneur, and car fabricator Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. Roth rose to celebrity status in the car-crazed youth culture of the 1960s, reinventing the custom car aesthetic with wild, fiberglass-bodied fantasy hot rods. He amazed car show attendees with vehicles like the Outlaw, the Beatnik Bandit, and ROTAR. His company, Roth Studios, produced striking art and typography with caricatures of monster in muscle cars and hot rods. The archetypal Roth character, Rat Fink, was widely regarded as Mickey Mouse's alter ego. Kids loved it and moms hated it. Ed Roth knew his audience. He knew what would appeal to hot rodders and what would appeal to kids. His genius lay in his ability to package and sell irreverence and rebellion to American youth, an influential new demographic that emerged in the prosperous years following the Second World War. His imaginative vehicles pointed the way for fantasy hot rods in the decades to come. ![]() Ed "Big Daddy" Roth...The Original Rat Fink was created by the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California. After a successful run at the Petersen they have generously agreed to loan the exhibition to the Blackhawk Museum for this very special spring time showing. In addition, The National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada has loaned us the Beatnik Bandit hot rod in order to round out the exhibition. The Blackhawk Museum would like to thank both of these fine institutions for both their generosity and expertise. The flyer also says: Life and times of Ed Roth: Comments and gallery walk with David Chodosh on Sunday February 24th The Wonderful World of pinstriping with Herb Martinez: Saturday, March 1st. Rat Fink Hands-On Family Funshop: Roadsters and Rodents - Sunday, May 4th Hot Rod Run: Sunday, June 15th

Awesome, Thanks for posting that.
I am looking forward to it, and we should have a HAMB trip of some sort, would be a good one!

Like I said. If it's the same one that was at the Petersen (which it sounds like it its), it's pretty big and cool!

I'll get something put together, and we'll take over the museum again. I think you'll dig their permanent collection too.

Awesome! I've not been in a while. Sounds like a great reason to go again.

Like I need a feeble excuse to visit Blackhawk....
I'll likely miss the HAMB trip (unless you do it on a Friday!) but I'll be there!! |

We could do Pizza and Refreshments afterwards at my place, like last time... if everyone's down for it.
Sam.
