Great pictures from Lakeland International in Memphis. I used to go there often in high school before they shut it down.

Does anyone have a photo or information on a '55 or '56 orange Plymouth that ran in the south around '64-'65 that was hemi powered and had an altered wheel base. It was called the "Big Orange". I only saw it once at the Double H Dragstrip in Blue Ridge GA so it must have been from the GA, NC, AL or TN area.
Thanks |

Not a "Drag Car" but still cool photos of HAMB member Charlie Burns racing at Fresno Dragways.

Zookeeper 2 and 4 have the 426 hemi. 2 is at the US Nats where John suffered injuries that later killed him. I don't think they ran the 426 more than 2 or 3 months the summer of 69?
Zookeeper 6 looks like a clone? In my youth the Zookeeper was up there with Garlits and Prudhomme, drag hero-wise. From this board and others, I've learned over the years that his death was preventable and due to ignorance about treating burns at the hospital he was at. John died from post injury infections probably received from the many visitors he had in the hospital. I also found out recently that AJ Foyt offered the use of his private plane to get John back to Calif or to a better hospital and his family declined. Garlits has probably suffered from burns almost as bad, but Garlits consistantly defied his doctors advise and moved on to other doctors that offered better treatments. One doctor wanted to amputate Garlits hands! Garlits decided he'd rather be dead than live without his hands and walked out in great pain. Most of Garlits bad burns happened in the late fifties and early sixties. Thanks for all the Beebe and Mulligan pics. Lots of them I've never seen before. -90% Jimmy |

The car in #6 is the one built by Tim Beebe & Lee Sixth using parts from Huzar (RCS) and it was replaced with the Woody Gilmore (RCE)

Jimmy,
photo #6 was taken at Castlereagh drag strip in Sydney Australia. As noted it was the first of the green striped cars and originally came to Australia by way of Leland Kolb. It was the "house car" at Surfers Paradise drag Raceway and was driven by Peter Dykes. At the time it was painted red, white and blue but when Jim Read (multi time Australian T/F champ) purchased the car he had it repainted in the original "Fighting Irish colors. Roo |
