You're right, a real class guy. I got to help out once during the U.S. Nationals back when I was at IRP. Paul Harvey called and said, "Ronda's at the back gate and nobody knows him." A quick call to the tower and a word or two with Darrell Zimmerman cleared that up.

The last I heard of Gene Turnage, he was driving the Broadway dinner train that Bob owned.

According to what I read, Gene was a minority partner in the company that owned the train, which shut down in 1999. I am assuming the train was sold off. One of the cars was an original ATSF, 500-505 "Pleasure Dome" car from the early fifties Super Chief passenger train and all six still exist.
