Mark Williams of Denver also built a rear-engined fueler that did well but usually ran locally and didn't get much press...and then the Coleman Bros, noted in an earlier post, the various Sidewinders, Speed Sport, etc.

Again, nothing against Garlits, but just to correct a too-common belief that he was first with a successful rear-motored fuel dragster...(but, to his credit, he did kick butt with it!!)
In discussing the history of succesful rear engine attempts, I am reminded of of Ron Vaughts rear engine jr fueler dubbed Outcast? Anyone have the particulars behind this car?

You mean Vaughn Raviart's "Outcast Jr." It was built by a really good friend John Shoemaker (R.I.P.) in the mid 60's. The idea came about after the consumption of a few beers.

Get a copy of Chris Martin's Top Fuel Handbook. It's one of the best sources of this info that nearly nobody knows about. I believe that Hot Rod Nostalgia sells them for about $10. Totally worth it.

LOL, man did I drop the ball on this one, in terms of the name anyway. And yes, thats who I was referring to. It was a sweet looking little car. I was it once at OCIR in 69 or so.

If so, are you doing the recreation or involved with it?

Are you kidding me, you have a remarkable memory! Your input on this thread sheds light on alot of unidentified images that get posted.

28247;
408..., I saw the article somewhere on the internet about Leongs car turning up overseas a year or so ago, but can not find it now.
At any rate, my memory notwithstanding, I believe you are correct because the car I'm thinking of did have an early model Chrysler in it.
I stand corrected.
Good luck in your search for the later car, and wish I could help.
I'd give anything to be involved in one of these 'Indiana Jones' detective hunts for old artifact like on the BeBee & Sixt recreation found elsewhere here at HAMB.
I am simply stunned by some of what I've read and pics I've seen since coming here.
I'm posting some junk found thrown back in my cellar I discovered recently of my ill spent youth. This is as close as I can get to some of what I see represented here.
Again, wish I could be of help.
