theres a video of the wheelstander getting squirly on youtube its called asphalt digout, the truck clips the vette then shoots off the track and through one of the signs and theres people behind it all scattering to clear out of the way, have a search its well worth the veiwing, also has jet car vs top fuel match races and so on. enjoy

The Trash Truck wheelstander belonged to Connie Swingle, who, as you know, was Garlits right hand man for many years.
I interviewed T.C. Lemons (Garlits crew chief in the 60's - 70's) ) about fifteen years ago, and he told me a story about what had to be this incident. He said that he and Garlits were hard at work on the dragster when they heard on the PA that Swingle was running in the Trash Truck. The next thing they heard was the standard thing every drag strip announcer says after a crash, "please, everyone, stay back'. T.C. said Garlits never stopped working and never looked up, but said, "I'll bet he (Swingle) won't be at work on Monday!" |
