Came across a fellow car guy that has Evans Aluminum heads and 3x2 intake for a flathead. Is Evans rare?? Can't seem to find much about them. Can any of you guys tell me more.
He wants to sell them for $400. Use to be his dad's on his 32 back in the day. Sounds cool to me. Thanks

You can still find the Evans stuff around, but you have to look for it some. For $400, that's not a bad price for heads & intake, so do it, before someone else does.

The cool part about this is that these came from my buddies dad that bought all the stuff new back in the day. He use to race and ran these parts. Really cool stuff. I guess they you don't come across this everyday.

I don't know...it depends on the condition. Give me the address and I'll go check it over for ya, since I'm in Iowa too.

IMO, Evans was/is some of THE best flatty speed equip.....right up there with Eddie Meyer and Navarro....
Check the heads over well before buying.....but it does sound like a killer deal. |

I would be looking for corrosion around the water ports and on gasket surfaces.

Yes, up to a point. If you mill flathead heads too much, you'll have to "redome" them for proper piston clearance.

I would buy the goodies at that price and the intake alone is worth 300 clams. The heads are even more if good. I check the heads by putting them together on the block surface and see the gap if any. Also will tell you if they could be warped and as said corrosion. You have a good buddy by selling you the parts so cheap. Toss them on a flatty and enjoy!

Evans speed equipment is way cool...
$400 seems cheap... Add to that the fact that unlike Navarro etc, Evans can't be remanufactured from the same molds and to me the value goes up. Evans molds were wood based and were left outside in the weather for years. They still exist but are junk and to repop the Evans stuff, you'd need to retool... Could still happen but not likely. One other thing to look for though is that I've heard that Evans had problems in the foundry process... People say that his attention to detail as far as casting integrity left something to be desired. I haven't seen any evidence of this myself but I've only had a few Evans parts in my hands... Good luck with the deal. |

My buddy bought out of the Local Want Ads a Model "A" Cast Iron Cylinder head that say right on it "POP EVENS" "HI COMPRESSION" Very cool head.. has it on his Roadster Pick Up.. Just to let ya know, I Sold an EVENS 3x2 Flatty manifold about 5 years ago for $250.00... $400.00 sounds like a decent deal today |

Pretty sure also, 2 Evanses...
Charley Price knows a lot about Evans; call up Vintage speed, if an old guy answers the phone you can get an hour of neat info--if an old woman answers, say "00ps! Wrong number!"
