Thought I'd share my pictures from Saturday at the ECTA meet at Maxton, NC. There was a huge turn out with lots of cars and bikes running.
All my pictures are here: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v134/sdcvw/ECTA%20March%202007/ And I've posted a few below, hope you enjoy them. ![]() >>![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks. I would have had lots more but I filled up the dang memory card right away since I forgot to empty it at home before I left and I really didn't think the wife would appreciate it if I deleted our daughter's birthday party and recital pics.
Me too. Those Studes are damn sexy. Sorry, I can't remember but I'll try to find out. There were too many cars at this meet to try to keep up. I went with a bunch of folks so I'll see if anybody can remember. They'll eventually post the results up at the ECTA website here: http://www.ecta-lsr.com/ but sometimes you have to wait a while before they show up.

One of the guys that I went with said he *thought* it was in the 160 to 170-ish mph range. But don't quote us on that.

Thanks for posting pics.
I'm wondering about some things. Maxton seems a lot different than El Mirage or Bonneville because Maxton has a hard surface. I've been to several El Mirage meets and it seems like getting traction, for acceleration and for not spinning, is a significant challenge because the surface is dirt. I've seen comments here that at high speeds Bonneville's salt is like driving on ice. Add in the fact that drag cars go 200 and 300-plus mph in a quarter mile. I understand (somewhat) that there are land speed racing records of faster mph, that there are also smaller engine classes, and that a drag car is only hitting 200 (for example) and not maintaining it for a mile. I guess what I'm asking is:
Thanks, Kurt |

Kurt- As I see it:
1. Finding a venue, long enough(keep in mind the shut down also) and in good enough condition, for high speed runs is a tough nut. Air-strips are the obvious choice but with liability issues and with many under FAA control it's really limited. With all the terrorist shit going on the Govt. wants to keep tight control of air fields. I believe this is why Muroc was only run a couple of times in the late 90s.- early 2000s. 2. The big advantage to lakes/salt venues is the lower cost/effort in maintanance-repair. Mother Nature goes a long way in keeping those venues in usable condition, whereas She doesn't fix potholes, frost-heaves and cracks in asphalt or concrete. 3. Actually, there is another lsr venue in So. Texas (Goliad) that was scheduled to run in the last couple of weeks but may have had weather issues (?) The main issue is that this is a amature/hobby sport and certainly not a big spectator draw (i.e. NASCAR, NHRA) Therefore the cost of rents, insurance etc. falls on the shoulders of those members in the SCTA-ECTA with limited resources. |

Thanks for posting the Great Pictures. I wanted to make it, but had to traqvel for work and could not go with the team I am involved with. (the Yellow and Blue Lakester #608)
Plus one of the guys in my club is the caretaker of the Thacker & Shine Street Roadster. Thanks again for the pictures.

The 9462 Stude is my buddy, Blaise. He was at my house earlier tonight, said he ran a 138mph with his.
Here it is in street trim.

One of the fastest vehicles (beat out a twin turbo viper, 223 mph) in that event was a customer of mine at the motorcycle shop I work at. We helped a lot in the build and the bike was dyno tuned on our dyno. Walter Kudron, 236 mph on a turbo charged Suzuki GSX1300R. He is doing one more event at maxton and the salt lake will be next
(if all goes well I will be going as his personal tech).
