Plowboy was nursing a St. Paddy's day hangover, so instead of working on his junk he had to come over and annoy me. I put the floor and stuff in my car and he made me roll it outside for some pictures. So here they are.

That is outrageous! A fine effort. What about the frame and drivetrain??Whatcha got there??
Are the headlamps going to roll out of the grille opening. Can't wait to see that thing with glass in it and a slick paint job. |

That thing is way cool (and way different)!
You ought to just start printing the info for handouts, you're gonna get tired of explaining everything you did to it... Hope you have a title already, 'cause DMV won't believe you, regardless of what you say it is...

Plan? Well, I guess I will keep drinking beer until it is done...hopefully by Goodguys Indy. We will see
I haven't figured out the headlights yet, Plowboy wants me to put some e and j's on it, but I am too cheap for that. I can show you the original headlight it is inside the car and will become the guage cluster.

The rear window is a masterpiece, I'm so glad Aaron convinced you to do a coupe. Pleeeeease tell me you're running a S2D engine. Great Work, I look forward to seeing it somewhere in person.

The car really is amazing. It's so radically altered yet it's so obviously Studebaker. Very nice.
I'm imagining the headlights using the stock headlight bezel but with a bucket built behind them to make them freestanding. I'm within the reactor-meltdown deathzone of Point Beach Nuclear plant, but all it does to me is make everything taste purple. |

To make a long story short, I cut the car EVERYWHERE. The roof is shrunk lengthwise and width wise. The whole car is narrowed about 2 feet.
It was a 4 door and I threw off the front doors so that shortened it about 4 feet. The front fenders got shaved off and the hood was brought to a point. So far I have used 3 spools of wire and a couple bottles of argon and there is still a lot left to do.

Really enjoy seeing projects like this. Looks like you
have a winner here. Thought of doing something like that to a 65 Mustang coupe, but now too old to start something that would require that much work. Thanks for photos, and looking forward for MORE. T.C.

That his hot rodding at it's finest. I hope you got some build photos to post. 37 years around cars and that is one of the finest slice and dice jobs I've ever seen. It's a visionary work to say the least. Just when you thought you saw it all.
My hats off to you pal. I'm gonna quit welding now. LZ

WOW! that is some awesome work.
Lots of positive feedback about the car - does anyone else think that it looks a little "Bent"? Amost like the center section where the cowl and doors are should be sectioned as well - but I don't know how much room is in the thing - maybe that wasn't a feesable option. Anyway - don't pay any attention to my thoughts - keep working and get it done!

"Stuka" is the first thing that came to mind when I saw it too. The way the sheetmetal drops down behind the front wheels, combined with the pointed nose, looks similar to the pointed nose and air scoop on the Stuka.
Stuka-Baker would be a good name for it. |

Here is a "before" pic that I took.
That roadster drawing was done by Ed Newton and was in a 1990 Custom Rodder magazine. |

Design and fabrication genius! maybe its just because I'm partial to Studebakers..some questions..you built yer own chassis?..how are you going to do the back glass and what engine are you going to use? Paxton on a 289? love the stock door handles...Rick

The chassis is just your standard 4x2 inch square tubing about like you would put under any hot rod.
Thanks for the compliments, Plowboy said everyone on here would like it. For those that siad they want one, anytime you want to mail me the check it can be yours! I got no problems cracking open a fresh case of beer and building something else.

I can't believe that nobody has said this yet, so I will. "My uncle had a DODGE just like that when I was a kid, oh that brings back the memories." Uh, ok?
Nice work by the way, can't wait to see the finished product.

Unfortunately the Stude will not be ready for Goodguys Indy.
The Cisco Kid called me on Sunday afternoon from Miami as he was on a Cruise ship drinking beer. He called me to tell me that. He also added that there was some hot chick standing in front of him that had an ass I would kill for. If you know Russ you would find that really funny because he talks so loud that I am sure she heard every word. ha ha ha the last time I saw the stude, the body was hanging from the ceiling so he could work on the chassis, but I didn't have my camera with me..... |

I've been wondering how this one is going to turn out since this first got posted. Sounds like it's a slow one (not that I have any room to talk, I haven't finished the frame yet). I wish I had enough artistic blood in my body to think of doing that but I don't. Keep us updated... |

I am not entirely sure that Russ ever sleeps. If you blink you will miss something he just built. Way cool man! Wish I was still just a short drive from drinking a beer next to that one!
