Need to know how to fit Buick drums to your early Ford spindles? Which backing plates to use? How to get the right spacing? Well, the expertise here on the HAMB never disappoints with these excellent threads on adapting the ubiquitous Buick drum for good looks and better braking!

In this first thread, Automotive Stud gives us the lowdown on basic fitting of Buick drums to early Ford hubs:

Here's another classic with priceless first-hand experience from tommy, Detonator, & Smokin Joe:

In these two threads, Rocky works on adapting Buick backing plates to Ford spindles using adapters from Mecutum:

Here's some more HAMB ingenuity at work. Andy explains his full-energizing brake conversion of early Ford backing plates using mid-70s GM parts:

Let's not forget this classic from 29RAT & his excellent adapters that let you use the Buick hub on the early Ford spindle which makes mounting those Buick drums a piece of cake:

If you're actually running Buick brakes on Buick backing plates, here's the NAPA part numbers thanks to hotrodarcheologist:

Once you've got those pretty Buick drums set up, how 'bout upgrading to self-energizing brakes. Obviously, you can use repop Lincoln stuff from Wilson Welding, but the '53-56 F250 setup is popular as well & can be had for dirt cheap with a little scrounging. Here's a couple of good threads on this conversion:

Here's a great thread by dmarv on early Ford brake p/n:

For those of you wanting Lincoln brakes, Vaphead shows how the new stuff goes together:
