Here is the way the truck sits now.


Here are my crazy assed headers. Building these things was a royal pain in the ass! please note the properly displayed alliance member tag


The brake booster complicated things.


The rear tube couldn't go up and over due to the column and the booster..........so it goes DOWN and makes a full loop before joining up with the other tubes!


I am not 100% on running the seats out of the jaguar xjs donor.


We recycled the original column and wheel. Not 100% sure what is going to happen with the dash either. S-10 pedal assy has been cleaned up, trans tunnel started, floors started


I'm proud of my column drop. Pedal assembly welds will get finished when it comes time to paint. From the driver seat, you cant see the bracket that holds the pedal.

Nice looking AD. I've got a '49 3800 that I'd like to do the same thing to. Looks like you've got it sitting on a S-10 frame - what year did you use, is one year better than another? Got any pics of mounting the cab and fenders?

Yep, it is a S-10.

This truck was originally a 3/4 ton with a flat bed. Since I am keeping the flat bed, I needed a longer wheelbase than most doing the S-10 swap....I used a 91 extended cab truck (122" wheelbase?)

 

It is looking good, but a quick question. Why did you make the headers when there are readily available S-10 with SBC headers? Because you are running larger diam and have the different flange pattern?

 

I didn't care for the small diameter and really unequal tube lengths of the store bought ones. They may work OK, but they didn't do it for me visually.

years ago a friend had a set of Hooker Super Comp headers for his S10 drag truck. they were large diameter and equal length. they worked out pretty damn slick, fit great and looked good too. not that it matters now. yours are already built. just looks like it was alot of work.

 

I've been working on it some more. I forgot to take pictures of the headers while they were out, but now the collectors curve toward the back and there is 3.5" exhaust all the way to the mufflers.

I also filled in the holes in the half assed transmission tunnel. Looks lots better now.



Still wishy-washy on the seats. Jag seats don't seem right. Bomber seats don't seem right. I'm leaning back towards a bench seat.

 

Also a picture of dad's "canned ham" trailer. He started out with the intention of building a teardrop...but shit got out of hand.

It has a real hardwood floor and everything.

He is doing the cabinets on the inside now.

 

Started working on the bench seat. Made new seatback and bottom out of sheetmetal. ....and started covering with foam

 

This past weekend, I started making my idea for a modified bench seat a reality.

I used sheetmetal to form the seat back and seat bottom..


There is a steel subframe under the seat bottom to help carry my fat ass.


The seat back and bottoms are contoured more like a modern seat and will be padded with a couple of inches of foam. (This is just the first layer. Bottom layers are gonna be dense, top layers something more cushy)


Doing the seat like this gains a bunch of interior space over the stock set-up. My seat back sheetmetal actually touches the back of the cab. I will sit 3-4 inches lower and about 5-6 inches farther back than stock.

I haven't decided what the cover material will be.

 

Ended up covering the seat in cheap black vinyl. I got impatient and did it the no-sew way.

Here is the seat. Good thing it is vinyl.....rust dust comes from everywhere.

Truck looks killer. How much did you have to move the motor back? I'm gonna do an S-10 swap under a 48 panel, and I have been reading that the motor needs to go back some? Thanks

Mine are 20 X 8.5 all the way around. They make them in other standard sizes.

Looks like it's getting there.

 

I put some more time in on it this weekend. I got the gas tank mounted.

It is a 2005 S-10 blazer tank (plastic tank...no rust flakes to deal with). It don't look like all that hard of a job, but it sure ate up the time. The filler neck is hidden under the edge of the bed.









I also got the boards cut the go under the flatbed. I didn't like being able to see through the truck (under the flatbed)

Are the front fenders lower because of this??? or am I just looking at it wrong??

 

I don't have the running boards mounted.

Pulled the headers off to do some other work on the truck. While they were off, I took a couple of pics.

 

I ran brake lines this weekend.

That sucked on a mostly assembled truck.

Lines go back to the firewall and then down.


The proportioning valve is tucked under the drivers side fenderwell.


Does anybody think it will be a problem rotating the proportioning valves up like that?

 

Oops, forgot a picture. Here are the adapters we built to go from the sprint car spread port headers to a regular chevy head.

I tried to blend them going from one shape to the other, but you can only do so much on the thin plates.

 

I beat my dash mostly into submission. Glovebox is gone and I fabbed a gauge panel.


I know the gauges aren't traditional.....but I have owned them for something like 18 years now and am going to use them.


My wood for the underbed area is attached


Tail lights are attached

 

Bed wood is finally cut and fitted. Still needs to be bolted down. Gonna wire it before bolting it down


Made running board brackets




Got the radiator mounted. The old oil can is the overflow tank.


I'm gonna have to have two very productive weekends if this thing makes it to Louisville.
