Does anyone know where this gold plated 1920 Pierce Arrow is currently located? A former owner of the car told me that it might be in Las Vegas. Here is an old display sign for the car and a scan of a black and white picture.
There was a feature on the car in Old Car Illustrated, Summer 1976 issue, Clark owned it at that time. Check with the Imperial Palace in Vegas, looks like a vehicle they'd have.
Now we know where all these guys got the idea of shortening a 2 door sedan into a pickup!Neat looking car;don't believe I've ever seen it before. Thanks for posting it.
A friend of my family owns the sister car to that one; it has a staggered seating arrangement inside. Two years ago he told me the gold car is now on an island somewhere...Malta? I can't remember. The car is not in the IP collection. Cris
Thanks for all of the help. I have a much better picture of it if anyone wants to see it. I could not get it to post on my site. It's about 4 megs. PM me your email address.
Hi if you are still looking my father owned the car in the early nineties it was bought as part of a collection from a Museum that was closing, it was shipped to the UK with about 10 other cars, it was taken to the Island of Jersey, but he did not sell it there, he did sell it and I can ask of the details if he remembers
Makes a decent wrecker too... <script src="http://www.coolchaser.com/javascripts/freecause.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script src="http://www.coolchaser.com/javascripts/freecause.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script src="http://www.coolchaser.com/javascripts/freecause.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script src="http://www.coolchaser.com/javascripts/freecause.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
I photographed the car and the old guy who did the gold leafing, in a small town in Kansas, in the late '60s or early '70s. The car then went on display in a bank in Denver. Interesting reading what's happened to it since. My story was in the Topeka Capital-Journal.
------------------------- Beautiful restoration of a very rare and a true classic make. I could be wrong on this (please tell me I am!) but from the pic, the headlights look like they've been converted to sealed beams! If so....UGH!....YUCH!...and WHY???? Mart3406 ==============================
------------------------------------ Is that really abandoned in a boneyard somewhere....or is it somebody's finished "rat rod". It's getting hard to tell these days. Mart3406 ===================================
Looks like this car is coming up for auction at RM Auctions of London towards the end of October. http://www.rmauctions.com/search-up...10&yearFrom=1920&yearTo=&LotNum2=&Make=&Model=#
The car sold by RM is now at Hyman Classic Cars in St. Louis, MO. Here is a link to the auction pictures. I saw it today and thought at first it was some kind of a weird George Barris creation made from a Pierce Arrow back in the 60's. Strange Car. http://www.rmauctions.com/CarDetails.cfm?SaleCode=LF10&CarID=r122
imdb.com bio on Japanese actor Sessue Hayakawa says in his famous years 1910s and 20s) he owned a gold-plated Pierce Arrow. When he learned his contemporary actor Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle obtained an identical vehicle, Hayakawa gave his to "the Long Island Fire Department". No idea where. Perhaps this is the same vehicle. Over the years I've seen a bunch of very handsome Pierce-Arrows including fire trucks, but this is the sorriest looking Pierce Arrow I've ever seen. Probably it looks great from the front. Has it been cut down and altered (especially in the back) over the years? Ugh!
To John who offered to send 'a better picture' please do so to me - Lee Munsick [email protected] Many thanks. Keep on truckin'
