Yep, you read it right.
I got permission from the man up stairs, (Thanks Ryan) so lets go! I would like to request some HAMB'r metal smith's, grinders, wipers or a few "stand arounder" observers to come together to help me chop my 50 Ford. I dont want anything too radical, still unsure how much to drop the lid, so recomendations are welcome. (anyone have a picture of Weesner's Shoebox?) Ill post some picts of some examples that I have been liking. I have all the necessary tools, planishing hammer, metal and parts needed for this upcoming event. (except an english wheel.) I will be providing lunch and dinner (BBQ), drinks and any other necessity items to keep this eventful. I also have on the table (working on design and submitting for approval) a plan to print up a large sum of T-shirts and other goodies for all that come down. Considering the price of each to print, I may be looking to print from 25 - 40 shirts if needed. To give back and a Huge "Thank You"... for all that show up; I will give away (pull a name from the Hat) something cool to one or two persons away for thier rides. I have not decided what that will be; but I dont want anyone to think I am looking for a free hand out. More than likely, it will be one of the following: "Gift Certificate" for one or two custom mods on your ride (french, shave, nose, deck), Paint your roof with some pearl, flakes or color of your choice that I have and/or re-wire of your whole car uusing a 6-post fuse block. The tentative date is Saturday, 11-18-06. If that weekend is a bad one, then the only time after would be Saturday, 12-2-06. I want to invite everyone that can make it and help out. Please PM me if you know for sure you can make it and Ill forward my address and phone number. Its been a while since one of these have gone down. Lets make it a good one. If you have any questions, throw them down and Ill try to answer all of them. Here is a picture of the victim that I want to improve.

I have none of the prerequisites noted in your thread, but It would be awesome to have cheerleaders (support). I can also cook up a mean carne asada.

I could make it on either day.
Based on lessons learned from the last HAMB Chop, I offer up the following considerations: - an air compressor of sufficient size to handle simultaneous use of a couple of die grinders/cutters - a stack of SATA cutting disks - extra gas for the MIG (I have a MIG that I could bring if needed) - a back window that will fit your new top design - non-alcoholic beer for those of us who work til the end - car must be stripped of all glass and interior trim, seats, etc. beforehand. Not sure what you set up is but the more room the better, the first couple of HAMB Chops were hosted at a commercial garage...I guess it could be done in less space but more is always better. If I missed anything I'm sure that Jason will chime in...it will be good to revive the HAMB Chop especially since we can forgo all the politics of picking a "deserving" victim...er, future custom car owner.

Chop50 Ford....Why do you want to do it like Weezie's, I'm sorry but that top isn't the greatest, look at tops like Job's Shoebox. Weesners is cool don't get me wrong, but the porportions are off quite a bit, this is a look that would have been done decades ago, you can do better than that...Now where exactly are you located? If I have time, I will attend and help give your top a makeover with the rest of these dudes.

I have two jobs and a new baby . . so it's up in the air until the last minute. . .but I'll be there if I can. No door prizes/incentives required. Should I bring my welder (gas mig 220v) or any tools?

I would love to be there. Let me know what I can bring. I have a friend at Rutlandtool.com and can get anything (within reason) we need i.e. SATA cutting discs, etc.

I like it. Maybe that will be the new name for the 'box. "The Victim"#1 - Consider it done....you say 12 a good number? or a pack or two? #2 - I got a mig and a Tig machine...both will have full bottles #3 - All I have is a stock window...that will work for me unless someone has a cool one up for sale? What would be cool is a '49 Mercury 3-piece rear window. But not sure on the fitment.#4 - Non-alcoholic beer....what type do you drink? Ill have it. #5 - Car will be stripped down to the bare body. AS for Weezner's shoebox, its merely for example. Basically, I really want it to look traditional, clean and proportional too. Im up for any suggestion. Got any pictures of Job's shoebox? The black one above looks to be one my favorite. 5051's and Bad Bobs 'boxes are cool too. As for those who want to cheer and cook...bring it. All are invited. I have a large BBQ grill and smoker that can be used. As for space...I dont have a commercial place but mine has sufficient room...or rather, Ill make sure there is. Parking may be a problem, but no worries, Hot rods can be put up at the house and newbie cars on the street. ![]() Example of tooling that I have: Air: Couple die grinders Angle grinders and plenty of 36 grit roll-oc disks Body saw grinding wheel Sheetmetal cutter Planishing Hammer w/ lots of dies. Staple gun Electric: got both 110v and 220v hook ups Couple angle grinders Sawzall Chop saw Sheetmetal cutter High speed buffer w/ shrinking disk Other: Shrinker/stretcher 42" Shear 48" Roller (at buddies house, but can get if needed) 48" Brake (at buddies house, but can get if needed) Beverly shear PLenty of hammer and dollies of different sorts Bulls eye pick (heh, never used it, but I got it.) Lead I hope Im covered. ![]() My address: 33938 Avenue I, Back House Yucaipa, Ca 92399

You gonna go with a vertical or canted B-post? Do ya have extra sheet for fabbin filler pieces, yeah, you can cut them from scrap, but fresh makes for a cleaner job. Swankey Devils C.C. |
