Built me a louver press.... and it works!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kiwi Kev, Oct 2, 2006.

  1. Here are some pics of my just completed louver press. I started out with the heavy duty frame from an old Oliver jig saw that I bought for $100. I scrounged up an old two way ram with a broken end and a 12volt power unit from a lift gate. I made my own dies from tool steel with a lot of grinding and filing. I paid $35 for the tool steel and $65 to have the dies heat treated. That's all the money I have in it, $200. All the other stuff I either already had, traded for or built. I wanted an old style fat, round louver and I'[IMG]m happy with the way it turned out.

Very nice, I'm envious. But, for that price, I guess even I could afford that.

Not only a cool machine but a nice piece of garage art to fit in with the neat memorabilia in your back yard, excellent

  24. Heavy, oh yeah it's HEAVY!! I borrowed a friends 3/4ton pickup to go get the saw. When they lowered it into the bed the rear suspension bottomed out and I thought the front wheels were gonna come off the ground. Believe it or not it flexes when you punch a louver.
