I AM ABOUT TO ORDER SOME ADJUSTABLE PUSH RODS FOR MY DeSoto HEMI ... WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS HAD A GOOD OR BAD EXPERIANCE WITH ANY MAUNFACTURE. I NEED THESE PRETTY QUICK SO I ONLY WANT TO DO IT ONCE. ANY ADVICE ON WHICH TO GO TO OR NOT TO GO TO..
Ditto Smith Bros. Ive been running the lightweight thinwall in My racecar with 470 LB springs at 7000 RPM with NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. FED
DeSoto.....Smith Bros. makes 'em for everything and for everybody.....did your's wear out after 40 plus years?
DIDNT WEAR OUT, NEED ANOTHER SET FOR THE NEW ENGINE. LIFTERS ARE DEEPER AND A BIG CLAY SMITH CAM REQUIRES LONGER PUSHRODS THAN THE ONES I HAVE. ALSO RUNNIN 440 LIFTERS SO I NEED TWO DIFFERENT SIZE BALL ENDS
I specified the end types and sizes and dimensions and got exactly what I ordered for my hemi. My problem was me when I measured for my intakes I screwed up and ordered them .10 to long. They work but I had to dimple my valve covers.
????? WHAT ??? IF YOU HAVE SOLID ROCKER ARMS AND ADJUST YER VALVE TRAIN TO SPECS ..... WHY DID YOU NEED TO DIMPLE YER COVERS ?? IF YER PUSH RODS ARE A BIT LONG, YER ROCKERS ARENT GONNA GET TALLER IF YOU WERE ABLE TO SET YER LASH AT THE CORRECT GAUGE. THAT DON'T SOUND RIGHT TO ME ...
First off, take the caps lock off. You don't need to shout. Second I have aftermarket converted adjustable rockers, not solid. Got the pushrods for the strength and weight savings. Just because a pushrod is solid does not mean it is strong. Chris Nielson (hemi cam guru) always recomends deep sixing the solid pushrods.
LOLOLOL .... THE CAP'S PISSED OFF YET ANOTHER !!! I DIDNT RELIZE YOU HAD ADJUSTABLE ROCKERS, THATS WHY YOU NEEDED TO DIMPLE THE COVERS..... AS WITH ALL HEMIS RUNNIN ADJUSTABLE ROCKERS. I HAVENT BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO FIND ADJUTABLE ROCKERS FOR A De Soto.. MAYBE FOR THE NEXT ONE..
The adjustables I have are converted from non adjustables and If I had ordered the right length pushrods I would not have needed the dimples. If you want adjustables have Rocker Arm Specialist convert yours. No big deal, just $.
OK, I GOT SOME ORDERED TODAY FROM "CLAY SMITH CAMS" SAY THEY WILL TAKE AROUND 4 DAYS OR SO... THANKS FOR THE HELP, BUT I CANT BELIEVE ONLY 5 GUYS STEPED UP TO ANSWER THIS. I THOUGHT THERE WERE SOME HOT RODDERS & RACERS ON THIS SITE.... MAYBE MORE ROCK~A~BILLY RAT~RODDERS THAN I FIGURED OHH.. I FORGOT..... YOU DONT NEED PARTS LIKE THIS FOR A S/B CHEV
I cut a Stock push rod in half, and thread the inside (long, hollow Pontiac rod). Add a short length of threaded rod and two locking nuts to the inside. Run it up snug to the rocker arm /lifter, and lock the 2 nuts against the rod halves. Do another one for the other length push rod, then either find that length in a catalog, or send both to Smith Bros. and tell them what ends you need. This also works great on reground cams, with a smaller base circle...
Sounded to me like he was using this to size them. Great idea. I measuerd and calculated wrong, getting exhaust pushrods .10 longer than I wanted.
KERRY - Yup, that's what they were for. That way, the fabricator can get them the EXACT length you need...including the correct tips...
