'49 Chevy pickup. These aren't the greatest shots, but they are all I have handy.

I've had requests for fabrication pictures of my dash, so here are a few.

I started by trying to modify the existing dropped lower edge of the dash. It didn't take long to figure out that it would be easier to just cut it off and fabricate what I needed from scratch.

After I laid out the gauge pattern on paper, this is the cutout I ended up with.

I moved the left half of the left gauge hole over to match my insert location. This gave me part of the rolled edge I wanted in the end.

The insert is mild steel strap bent to the desired shape, then welded to a sheetmetal panel. All it needs now is more welding, bodywork, and some primer.

The engine turned panels are cosmetic only and go in from the front. They are held in by the gauges, radio, and switches with no adhesive or fasteners. Fortunately, they don't rattle. I had to trim carefully to get them to completely fill the insert without scratching the paint during assembly. Hope this helps.

Eddie, The one thing that sold my wife on our '56 Olds was the dashboard. She would never get out of your car after seeing this picture..... Nice work!!

Which is why you should never leave your car unattended, Ron. I've been looking for a '56 Olds dash to cut up for my truck project's dashboard and I'm carrying my sawzall with me............:D
