Looking to buy a 66 F100 with a 240 Inline 6 and 3 on the tree. Wondering what the top speed would be? Was looking to make it a daily driver. Also, any idea what the mpg would be on something like this? Shouldn't do to bad with the inline six and manual trans.
The V-8 trucks actually got better mileage when properly tuned. You are looking at 18 mpg tops with that old treuck and probably closer to 14. it will cruise down the highway just like anything else. Top speed is going to be around 80-90 mph, but it will hang at 65 all day long.
If it has a 3.50 gears it should get between 18 and 20 if the motor is running good,I had a 77 with a 66 240 with those gears and a automatic and thats the mileage I got out of it.
My '66 240 pickup would go 85 mph. and cruise at 70 all day. Mileage was nothing to brag about, less than most V8's, unless I drove it at about 50, then it wasn't too bad. 240 and 300 are short stroke engines, they love RPM!

We had a later model Ford with the 300and a four speed overdrive, drove it back and forth From Muskogee to Ft Hood Texas a lot. Would run 80 with ease and get 20 mph doing it. Had a earlier model 300 automatic , 70 tops 13 mph, but would pull the world sideways if you could hook it up. Found out after I had it for a while it had a stall torque converter in it. So yes gearing makes a difference. Bones
240 heads had smaller chambers worth about 1/2 point compression early heads had bigger valves and adjustable valve train.
