A friend of mine who is not very good with a computer picked up a Chevy V-8 at an estate sale. He wants to know what he has. My books are too old to help him. The casting number is 3970010. On the pad on the front of the engine it has T8J506298 and V1118TWY stamped on it. Thanks in advance for your help, Daryl
....and the truck was built in Wisconsin. Just another (most likely) 4 bolt main truck 350 block. They're getting harder to find these days.
010 is a 350 casting which was used for both 2 and 4 bolt blocks, look on the sides of the block and by the bell housing for a casting S010 if so it a 4 bolt http://chevymania.com/partsid/suffixresults.cfm <TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=0 width=600><TBODY><TR bgColor=#eeeeee><TD align=center>TWY</TD><TD align=center>78</TD><TD align=center>350</TD><TD>Truck</TD><TD>165</TD><TD>LS-9</TD><TD>TH 350</TD><TD>4-Brl</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
