A few years ago, I was at the Hot Rod Cinematic and found myself studying a very well done '32 3w. It was a casual hot rod, but a lot of time and energy was spent on the details. You know the trade - innovative wire looms, brilliant brackets, clocke...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
I want one, im sick of spilling coffee on myself while shifting my model a. guess ill build one, mines gunna be weighted so it wont bounce around.
I was hoping this was going to be an expansion of your "I like women in bras" Alliance ad but this is cool too.
I used a large roll of black duct tape for a while,,color to match the carpet but ended up using half the roll,,,a half a roll won't keep a cup of coffee from turning over. HRP
That is really neato. My dad used to build boxes with sliding tops like that to hold tools, or hardware. A few of them were even customized with inserts designed to hold measuring instruments. He was a machinist and a ship carpenter for years. cool post man. - Joe
Cool thing... But I still don't think cup holders are for hot rods. I do just fine holding my mug (sippie cups are for sissies!) and shifting the tremac at the same time. If for some reason I can't, it's probably time to stop for a bit anyway! Seriously though, cool gift.
I have one from back in the 1950's. It is a plastic tray with two holes and a swival bracket. It was designed to be mounted on the lower edge of the dash and swing out from under it to be used.
Ehh... agreed, the mystery is better than the knowledge... And that Sherlock, is all I got... Good Luck Ryan!
OR.. >>The return address listed a man by the name of Al Hackel from Bloomington, Il. << Why go through all that trouble when you could just write a letter to the return address?
That would be too easy. You were wondering the exact same thing I was. Or you could call information.
I would think he would at least drop ya a line Ryan...but maybe he wants no recognition for his contribution. I think it was an awesome gift, and very cool of him to just send it your way. Just another "bennie" for being such a great boss!!!
Ryan, remember when you were a little kid at Christmas time? Back when you thought Santa was a real dude who actually came down the chimney? Now, remember how you kinda lost "something" when you found out who he REALLY was? It's the same here. Enjoy the fact that someone thought about you enough to craft a really cool thing. Enjoy it. You'll always remember that guys name, but if you find out who it is, you'll have lost that "something" and "something" is a really cool thing to have.
Man when I got a package from AL all it had in it were a creepy note made from magazine clippings and a self adressed stamped envelope for a lock of my hair. Seriously though, what a cool gesture and I think its cooler that he's leaving it a mystery.
Sometimes simple is better, remember KISS. Great idea, just put a little weight in it, then it could be removed when not needed. That one is a keeper.
Actually we use similar rolls at work for the same purpose"s" only we take a good length of the end of the roll and wrap it around the front pillar of the "EROPS" taping the entire roll to the forklift so we can drop in the beverage of our legal choice while we work, and you don't have to worry about it tipping, just falling through if the cup isn't large enough to catch in the center of the roll. If you were to do the same to your steering column (in black) then you too could enjoy your cup of Joe without it getting the better of you. Maybe a picture for the next low buck tech week?
