I will preface this thread with the following statement:

I am not of sound mind.

Now that I've got that out of the way.......I have found a new use for the Chuckles Sedan's old motor. I'm going to put it in my 1962 Falcon.

I am going to make this as period perfect as I possibly can. This will be a REAL Gasser built to the 1965 NHRA rule book.

    • spindle mounts
    • 6x2 Nailhead with maximum setback (NOW a Littlefield blower with 2x4 4-Jets)
    • 4 speed or a switch pitch
    • 2x3 ladder frame
    • 9 inch
    • econoline front axle (changed to straight tube)
    • fenderwell exit pipes
    • no hood
    • no interior, just a dash pad a couple seats, and some period instruments.

It will be called the STRANGE BIRD!

Take the time and look through the thread, skipping to the end is for suckers.

Wasn't the nailhead obsolete as a racing engine by 62?

"Nailed"...........but thats a little obvious, no?

    Cool project though:)

  13. It was produced from 57-66 so I'd say NO to that one.

But I also can't imagine anyone would have done this. Big FE motor, Yes, but a Nailhead, not bloody likely

Use the engine for another project and use the Falcon for another project. Or just make a gasser out of it all and call it 'why?'

    HAHAHA....."why"

I'm not looking to be talked out of using the combo together. It works for me. It should generate alot of double takes when people walk by it for sure.

While the Buick is neat, I would have to agree with 64 Cyclone. A 406 would be perfect and would flat fly! I don't recall seeing to many (if any) gassers at the time with 6-2's but why not. From my recollection, most were injected or blown, some had dual-fours.

  21. Twisted, just the way I like it. How about calling it 'SickandTwisted'? You already have the idea, the parts, and you didn't post so we'd talk you out of it(I'd never do that anyways, I love shit that gets under the purist's skin) right? When someone says 'don't' they really mean 'I dare ya'. Personally, I'd put the Buford sideways in the trunk with a chain drive, and mount a passenger seat in the engine compartment with a hole in the hood so a buddy can ride up front and stick his head through. But that's just my conservative side talking. Let me suck up a few beers and I'll try and come up with some ideas for ya. I'm the guy who put a 455 buford in a 66 TR4A and almost got lynched when I showed up with it at the fathers day british sports car picnic.

Chuckles....YOU ARE NOT RIGHT. But that is OK!!! That is how a lot of stuff was done back in the era you are shooting for. This build might not have been done by some of the more funded guys, but everyday guy lookin to build a car to race would have done it for sure. I bet if one searches around they will find a nailhead powered ford car runnin in a gas class. I dig the idea, dig the condition of the falcon you've got, and sure as hell dig that nailhead!!!! Hell paint that 'ol hot rod green and call it "DIG 'EM" !!!

Um, yea. I... uh... Maybe you better leave all the windows down so they don't snap.

You sure weren't on the bench very long....
    Drama queen! :)

  28. I had a buddy who got divorced and the only thing that he saved was his cherished 396 out of his 55 drag car. It took him a few years to really get back on his feet financially, but every season he had something to race, and it always had that 396 in it. Over the next 5 or 6 years we saw it in a 49 plymouth, a 74 Ford shortbox, a 61 canadian Pontiac laurentian, and a 67 Dart, all 11 sec. bracket bombs. There are no boundaries.

  29. Wasn't 'Dig'em' a frog from a cereal box? I remember having that iron-on on a jean jacket...
