I had one of those, Mopar 8-3/4". I advertised it for $400 and sold it to the first guy who called. Then, I had several other guys offer me as much as $800 for it if I would stiff the first guy. Sorry, but no thanks!

Dave, It appears to be a Mickey Thompson Olds third member. They were used in the smaller pre 1957 Olds rears in dragsters.

Thanks for the replies, was the flange around the pinon for a dragster mount or was it for a torque tube? I have been told it was for an old Olds , I got it from a 60's front engine dragster racer/builder.

That's way cool, what's the gear ratio and is that a posi carrier? It don't look like a spool.

No it does not bolt up to the bellhousing/ adaptors I have. Also looking for info on those, one is a Chrysler and the other is Chevrolet, look at my other postings.

Mickey made those in two sizes big Olds and little(49-50). Little centers can still be found but the internals are the hard parts, Bearings and seals are expensive, Nobody ever made a spool or posi and the only low gears came from ambulances. Mag does not age well so to try and put power to it with compond slicks on a prepped track will cause problems.
The big flange in front was for the anti rotation plate and to put a big enough tube on the front to cover the U-joint as couplers were not made for that unit. |

Can anyone tell if this is the big or small olds? I could measure if this would help. Thanks everyone.

That looks like it might have more value for putting in someone's collection of rare parts then it would have for putting in a competitive race car. It might be one of the crowning pieces in a Cacklefest car though.

We had a small - early Olds M/T center section in this dragster, I don't remember the flange being as large as the one you have pictured. These are poor pics, but they show the tube/ shield over the drive shaft, ours had a coupler. I was told M/T built some for 55-64 Chevy centers as well.

Yes, it IS the smaller , early Olds case. He/they musta done a bunch of those, as I've seen them for sale from the late 60's, to current swap meet visits.

If you pull the gears there should be a part number cast into the housing. I have an old catalog that has some of the part numbers and associated years it would fit.
