I'll post more as time allows.

Thanks for sharing! That place will always be the 'big' track in my mind. I grew up going there to watch the big guys run.

This is the "Fourth Horseman" 'Vette owned by Clark Rader Jr, the man whose family built National Trail Raceway. Clark was the 'face" of the track for years, a great guy and really colorful.
And yes, that is Linda Vaughn.

Experimentation was the rule not the exception.
Todays drag cars are faster and safer but they all look the same in many ways.
Those cars were built not unlike our hotrods...inspiration and perspiration
not 1-800 send me the part.

I'll post some more tomorrow during the day. Some will be slightly "o/t" but nothing newer than '73 or there abouts.

    OK, back for Day 2.
The Motown Missle may be a bit o/t, but I figured it was such an influential car that I'd post it.

    More you say?
The Funnies are a little "O/T", but I think it is a great shot. I'm pretty sure that is Jeg Coughlin Sr in the Camaro

Look close - there's some wild stuff in the motorcycle pic.
And another O/T but well-shot funny car pic

    Back Again with more-
This is the '68-'69 crew. When it opened, NTR was the only drag strip with Ford corporate sponsorship, hence the Ranchero & Torino wagon. That changed in '71, after that all the track vehicles have been GM.
The guy to the far right in the starter box is Jim Layton, he is now the General Mgr. of the track.

Al Bergler is driving the dragster with the canopy. This car in a slightly different form won the first Riddler Award and has been totally restored, still owned by Al.
Think the hay bales are going to ofer much protection if one of those blown altereds gets out of shape?

thanks for all the pics...... having grown up in eastern licking county I spent many a weds and friday night out there. My uncle sold radar a AAR Cuda in the early 90's that had sat since the mid 70's, for the sum of $5,000. That car today is likely worth much more. Keep the pics coming.

Here's a few FEDs. Ever notice the "Circle R" in the old National Trail pics?
It looks like a "registered trademark" symbol, but actually stands for "Circle R Farm", which was the brand of the Rader family that built/owned the track

The car may be a little new for this site but you gotta admit, there is some original thinking going on here!
