Discs in front won't give you any trouble like the drums might have.

Also, this thread needs more pictures.

    Just sayin' . . .

    :D

  2. Not driving yet.
The metalwork is shaping up nicely though
Jack hasn't helped me at all,
    that ain't performance!!!
I better talk to Jack about that.

    How's your progress?

I'm planning to put my 39 Chevy COE cab on a 1970 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup chassis, so your thread is giving me some motivation and ideas. How do you get the disc brakes on a '69/70? Mine came with drums all around.

  4. Cool! Glad to help motivate another COE owner/build.
The entire front crossmember from a 85 had been swapped onto my donor frame.
It's easy.to do. All of the 14 bolt holes line up with only two of them needing to be die ground

  5. Bit by bit the metalwork is getting done.
There is a fair amount to do with the worst being the rear panel and roof.
A lot of rough bumping going on with the two worst areas being a nasty crease on the roof
right side and the heavy dents on the roof to back panel curve.
In order to relieve any perimeter stresses before finishing the lower crown roof panel,
I dealt with the "chain bites" last night. These are caused by someone lifting the cab off the frame with a chain wrapped through the cab, very common on COE's it seems.

  6. This is a pretty cool build, love it !

  7. Thanks!
    It's starting to shape up.

  9. Well actually ,I always wanted a '33, and now I got one!
Think I will just build two projects instead of mashing them together.

That looks pretty cool though ,someone should build that.

  10. Real nice . Roof dents can be a bitch

That roof turned out nice for how bad it was dented. Keep hammering away at it. Every little thing done get you one step closer to being on the road.

Hi K.. I remember when you first Got that. you were pretty Stoked... It looks like its coming along really Nice..

  13. Thanks all.

Terry, yup, seems like a long time ago now.
Slowly the metalwork is getting done.
It's a long list of bodywork on this one.
Working trucks have a hard life.
    What are you working on?

I bought a '33 Ford truck I am piecing together as well.
It is on the back burner.

Buggy, the roof dents were the worst on the passenger side,
you can see them pretty good in some of my previous pics.
Door tops took the worst of the chain bite.

Good you see your making good progress...

    I got myself a 53 J... New project..

  15. No updates.
Been busy with a couple customer projects.
The COE is just kind of in my way and taking up space.
    Wow, that sounds negative!

    What's happening with yours?

  16. I wish my 39 Chev COE was as far as you got on your 39. My cab is still on rollers getting stripped down to clean metal. But I did Finley find a frame three weeks ago. 1980 Chevy 1.1/2 ton step van P30 chassis. No rear end or wheels. But I found wheels/tires last week, but no rear end to mount them on.
I like the profile/stance of your GMC. Keep going, don't stop now...

  17. Thanks oldschoolantiqueauto,

I really like the box on yours, with the rounded rear part.

I gotta get going on mine again,
it's been on hold for a bit too long.

  18. I know how things get in the way, mostly lack of money is my slowdown, LOL...
That & not knowing what I really want to do & how to do it once I get my mind made up. I'm just a slow thinker... I got a lead on airbags for the front & I probably will pick them up this next week. Like usually, I don't do thinks in the order that they should be done in, LOL...

Question, First with the motor mounted that low in relationship to the rear end will the driveshaft angle up and if so is that a problem. Second, is there room for carburator under the seat. Still struggling with motor location. Just got the cab yesterday so soon I will have a better perspective when i set the cab on the frame. Thanks Tom from wisconsin

Forget the updates, just send me your address and I'll come grab it so you have more room to work on customer's cars. :)

I am new to this site. What a great looking bunch of trucks. It inspires me! I'll have to get back to my 39 ford COE and get it done. Burned out a few years ago but its time to get back to it.

Hello, do u know if there is a difference on cab sizes between 1 ton and say 4 ton gmc coes of this year. Thinking of buying one close by. Just noticed that the one I'm looking at the top of the grill looks like it hinges. The one I'm looking at is suppose to be a 40.

  25. From all the research I have done on '39-'40 GMC's, they are all the same cab size.
    I believe mine is a 3 Ton.
The top half of the grill hinged means it was a diesel model, the gasoline ones are like mine, all one piece.

Ol46, and shelbyguy1, Welcome to the HAMB.
Please go to the Introductions area on the main page and do a proper introduction.
It is a rule here, it will save you some grief from other members as well.
Then join the COE group, lot's of great information there too.

I think my New Years resolution is to get back on my COE!!!

I think I have you guys beat...I've been working on my COE for about 10 years and it is still not roadworthy. Not giving up yet! This is the year it hits the streets.

Bill has a ton of pics of my 41 Ford on his web site. I have posted a few here from time to time. I guess I should post a build thread.

I like seeing what you guys come up with.

  29. kscarguy, you should do a build thread,
I'd like to see the progression on your build.
It is seeing ones get done that gets me going on mine again.
